Press release from the issuing company

PODi, the Digital Printing initiative, will host its first Digital Print Applications Workshop November 4-5, 2002 at the Hilton Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Held in conjunction with a PODi Technical Working Group meeting, the workshop will educate attendees about digital print applications, Best Workflow practices and software tools for implementing digital print workflows. Attendees will also learn about implementing XML based workflow systems based on PPML, the most widely adopted standard for digital printing for templated digital printing and variable data printing. The workshop is open to digital print implementers at print service providers, enterprise production print facilities, and software developers of digital print solutions. Applications to be discussed include: * Direct Mail and Fulfillment (documents on demand) using PPML * Template based applications for collateral on demand systems * Transactional applications such as CRM statements. What Attendees Will Get From the Workshop * Best practices for implementing efficient workflows for digital printing applications. * Survey of current software applications for creating these workflows * Introduction to developer tools including PPML Open Source * Live face-to-face interaction with members of PODi's technical working group, which created the standard Who should attend * Implementers of variable print workflows: digital prepress managers, database managers, or IT staff responsible for designing new workflows * Software developers for vendors of digital print solutions * Software developers for CRM vendors will learn how to integrate offline media (print) into their workflow. (Example: the Boston Symphony Orchestra has been using digital print mailings to complement their Web presence, and they find that print outperforms email as an effective way to get new Web registrations. This case is featured in the forthcoming Third Edition of PODi's Best Practices in Digital Print.)
