Managing Editor Releases K4 Publishing System Version 4.1

Press release from the issuing company

New version offers innovative tools for editors Jenkintown, PA (October 10, 2002) -- Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), a Philadelphia-based software development and integration company, announces the availability of version 4.1 of the K4 Publishing System. K4 is a collaborative workflow system for publishers that integrates Adobe InDesign 2.0 and the award-winning editorial tool Adobe InCopy 2.0 with a powerful SQL database. Some of K4's new features broaden the functionality for editors, offering capabilities that are unique and new to the world of editorial systems. In the new version, editors are not only automatically alerted when the layout for their article has changed, but also when the content of other articles in the layout have been modified by other editors. The editor can then load the other text changes to have the latest page content at their disposal for fine-tuning their own article text. Another new feature allows an editor to check out all or selected articles and text frames belonging to the same layout as one InCopy document with a single mouse-click, saving time when doing final corrections or closing out pages. This provides maximum flexibility for the editing process without having to pre-package text components into InCopy documents in advance. With its multilevel security controls and robust customization options, K4 supports transparent and secure production workflow for individual workgroups or entire publishing enterprises. K4 offers check-in and check-out of content, simultaneous workflow between layout and editorial, copy editing at the page stage, content and layout change alerting, workflow routing, status tracking, version control, galley or WYSIWYG editing mode, red lining, change tracking, and inline notes. One of the hallmarks of K4 is its Open-SQL interface, enabling other systems such as asset management or automated prepress to be linked to K4. Articles are stored in XML format and can be easily repurposed for use on the Web. K4 has been successfully implemented at magazine sites ranging in size from 12 to more than 250 users. AVAILABILITY K4 Publishing System 4.1 is available now for Macintosh OS 9 and OS X and Windows 98/NT/2000. K4's versatile TCP/IP-based SQL database can run on OS X server, Windows NT/2000 server, Linux with Intel hardware, IBM RISC systems, or Sun Solaris.
