Agfa to Demo Leading Edge Prepress Technologies at Graph Expo

Demos Include New Xcalibur 45, Palladio, ApogeeX and Delano GRAPH EXPO, Chicago, Illinois – October 6, 2002 – Agfa Graphic Systems will be demonstrating many of its new and leading prepress technologies – from CtP and CtF solutions to workflow and consumables – at its booth (#3823) during Graph Expo, at McCormick Place South in Chicago, IL, October 6-9, 2002. "Printers are looking for ways to cut their costs without sacrificing quality in their products. Printers are continually working to make printed media the most attractive choice for clients. In delivering this, they are looking at new technology and have questions and concerns about moving to an all-digital workflow. They want to understand how CtP can work for them in their operations. These technologies take their enterprise to the next level by automating production tasks and eliminating the obstacles that cost time and money," said Robert Stabler, President, Agfa Graphic Systems, North America. Among the new products being shown in a U.S. expo for the first time are the Xcalibur 45, Agfa’s newest thermal platesetter and the recently introduced ApogeeX workflow solution, which will be publicly demonstrated live for the first time on the show floor. "Attendees at the show will be able to come to the Agfa booth and get an up-close, hands-on experience with our newest products for the Graphic Enterprise," said Susan Wittner, Marketing Manager, Agfa Graphic Systems. "More importantly, they’ll be able to speak to our experts and get information that can help them achieve ROI and financial success and deliver differentiated quality to their clients," Wittner added. In addition to the products and services on display at the booth, show attendees are invited to visit Agfa’s Presentation Theater and learn about the various technologies that are critical to any print or prepress operation. Seminars being conducted in the Theater will cover such issues as digital proofing, the latest screening technologies and next generation prepress workflow. What to See at Agfa’s Booth Agfa’s Presentation Theater is the cornerstone of this year’s booth where visitors can learn about hot new technology. The Agfa Booth (#3823) is comprised of four ‘pods’, each focusing on a different CtP solutions from Agfa’s broad ‘best-fit’ portfolio: 8-up Violet, 8-up Thermal, 4-up Violet and Very Large Format (VLF) Platesetting. In addition, visitors will be able to see demos of or get detailed information about: -ApogeeX – Agfa’s next generation workflow software based on PDF, JDF and Digital Film, represents a breakthrough in automation and ease of use. ApogeeX was designed to provide maximum user control and processing throughput. Agfa put full workflow control into a single, easy-to-use user interface, at the same time keeping the system modular and scalable. -Delano – Agfa’s web-based project management system, which will be demonstrated at the booth so attendees can easily see its benefits, streamlines and automates the planning, staffing, scheduling and tracking of print and publishing products and projects. -Palladio and our new Lithostar Ultra violet plates – The Palladio, which shipped over 150 units in its first six months, is a fully automated, 4-up flatbed platesetter designed for small- to medium-sized printers. -New screening technologies including Sublima and dot screening for Inkjet – Agfa’s Sublima, a unique hybrid, high quality screening technology, guarantees full contone reproduction for highly dynamic images, with no extra effort on press. Booth attendees can also learn about Agfa’s CristalRaster stochastic solution for packaging. -Xcalibur 45 and Thermostar plates – Agfa’s Next Generation Thermal Platesetter will be seen for the first time in the US. The Xcalibur 45 is a High-Speed, 8-up platesetting system that uses advanced Silicon Light Machines’ Grating Light Valve (GLV) technology, an application originally designed for the emerging High-Definition Television (HD-TV) market. Agfa is the first and only company to apply this technology to the prepress and printing market. The X45 will be running live - imaging and processing Agfa Thermostar plates. -Galileo VXT, with our new Lithostar Ultra violet plates – Galileo, the first and best selling violet platesetter in the world, will be demonstrating the automation features of the Platemanager. -Digital Proofing – Agfa’s Sherpa, SherpaMatic and Grand Sherpa turnkey ink jet proofing solutions will all be on display and available for demonstrations. Our automated 2-sided proofer and high resolution proofers are available for demos. -Xcalibur VLF – The Agfa Xcalibur VLF (very large format), an innovative thermal platemaking system combining high productivity, image quality, automation and production reliability, has captured a significant market share this year and continues to gain installs. -Phoenix CtF and CtP Solutions – Agfa’s next generation of drum imagesetters for commercial printers, service providers and packaging solutions. Phoenix also serves as a CtP solution by outputting press-ready Setprint Plus polyester plates. -Salient LE and SSE – Agfa’s digital prepress network, designed for 4-up and 8-up or greater environments, makes it easy to incorporate complex prepress technology within the award-winning Apogee PDF workflow.
