Aberdeen Designates Hewlett Packard Use of Printcafe As Best Practice

Press release from the issuing company

Documents HP’s Print Procurement Savings Aberdeen Group Evaluates 30 Online Services Procurement (OSP) Implementations and Recognizes Hewlett Packard’s Use of Printcafe’s EnterpriseSite as Best Practice for Print Procurement PITTSBURGH, PA (September 24, 2002) Aberdeen Group, a leading market analysis and positioning services firm has identified Hewlett Packard’s implementation of Printcafe’s [NASDAQ: PCAF] EnterpriseSite e-procurement solution among those that have been the most successful in automating the purchase of printed materials to control costs, streamline processes, and enhance responsiveness. The finding was part of Aberdeen’s Best Practices in Online Services Procurement (OSP) report, which was issued today, September 24, 2002. Aberdeen examined over 30 OSP implementations, categorizing them into one of three areas, travel, print, and contract labor. The evaluations performed by Aberdeen were based on multiple metrics including usage, spending volume, process efficiencies, cost savings, and additional qualitative benefits. A $45 billion provider of business and consumer computing, imaging, and printing solutions and services, Hewlett-Packard spends millions of dollars each year on its own printed materials to support marketing activities worldwide. To optimize the effectiveness of its marketing investment, HP implemented Printcafe’s EnterpriseSite e-procurement solution in order to consolidate its print expenses, while still maintaining its traditional policy of allowing its creative agencies working on behalf of HP to order print from pre-qualified print suppliers as needed. "Business services represent more than half a company’s purchasing dollars, yet they have eluded the discipline of well-defined procurement procedures, due to the multiple activities and parties involved in procuring and managing them," said Christa Degnan, senior analyst, Supply Chain Research at Aberdeen. "Web-based OSP solutions focusing on the complexity of services complement and extend traditional e-Procurement solutions to help organizations manage more of their total indirect spend, particularly important as companies struggle with a prolonged recession." According to the Aberdeen report, HP selected the EnterpriseSite solution from Printcafe because it was the most flexible tool on the market. Due to HP’s numerous criteria for qualifying printers and print jobs, it needed a solution that could accommodate the complex requirements of both its procurement professionals and its print buyers. The HP team working on the print procurement project found Printcafe’s EnterpriseSite flexible and easy to use. Printcafe’s reporting capabilities have made the overall print procurement processes and expenses clearly visible to HP, with the system being used to help audit these expenses as well.
