EFI Receives Prestigious SWOP Certification for Fiery Proofing Solution

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO--Oct. 6, 2002--Electronics For Imaging today announced that its renowned Fiery technology has earned the publishing industry's prestigious proofing certification -- Specifications for Web Offset Publications (SWOP). The Fiery Z5 color server with Fiery System 5 software has received the SWOP seal of approval, signifying that the system is capable of predicting final printed color in a Web offset environment. The solution will be shown in EFI's booth #4853 at the Graph Expo show, October 6-9, in Chicago, Illinois. Designed for use with mid-range color print engines, EFI's Fiery Z5 server with System 5 software features powerful color management tools for graphic arts professionals, offering a cost-effective, fast and easy to use solution for producing accurate, everyday proofs and comps. "The ability to consistently produce high quality proofs is critical to creative professionals. EFI's Fiery Z5 technology and industry-leading color management software enables users to easily and inexpensively simulate the appearance of final Web offset printed materials," said Ghilad Dziesietnik, vice president, Advanced Workflow and Core Software Technologies, EFI. "We are pleased to offer this simple, affordable proofing solution to the publishing and advertising markets." SWOP, Inc. is a non-profit organization that recommends specifications for the use of all those involved in the production of publications -- including advertisers, publishers, printers, advertising agencies and prepress service suppliers. The SWOP certification test requires that manufacturers of off-press proofing systems submit a SWOP Application Data Sheet (ADS) and representative proofs. SWOP representatives tested the Fiery Z5 server with specifications listed in EFI's ADS for quantitative conformance and determined the acceptance of the system's visual match to a SWOP Certified Press Proof. EFI's ADS, which provides directions for producing proofs as closely as possible to the appearance of a SWOP Certified Press Proof, is available at www.swop.org. The following elements are included in EFI's ADS for the quick, easy simulation of SWOP specifications: * Fiery Z5 server with integrated EFI ColorWise in-RIP color management system and intuitive Command WorkStation(TM) print job management software * EFI's Fiery Graphic Arts Package featuring a specialized set of tools to achieve consistently accurate color and print quality * Canon CLC 1140/1180 color copier/printer * Sappi Paper Lustro 80# gloss cover stock EFI's SWOP-certified proofing solution will be demonstrated with a Canon CLC 1140 at the Graph Expo show in EFI's booth #4853. The Graph Expo show runs October 6-9 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. About SWOP Specifications for Web Offset Publications (SWOP) was initiated in 1975 as a response to the printing industry's need for uniform specifications and tolerances to ensure consistency and quality of material in publications. Over the past 25 years, SWOP has become a major factor in the publication printing industry. The resulting recommended specifications are the concern of all those involved in the production of publications -- including the advertiser, publisher, printer, advertising agency, and prepress service provider.
