Merrill Corporation Names Rick R. Atterbury President and Chief Operating

PAUL, Minn., Sept. 9 -- Merrill Corporation, a global diversified communications and document services provider, today announced that Rick R. Atterbury has been named president and chief operating officer.  John W. Castro will remain the company's chief executive officer. "In this role Rick's innovative vision, coupled with his deep understanding of Merrill's clients, our strategies and operations, will accelerate our growth," Castro said.  "Rick has been my business partner for the past 26 years and has always been a key driver of the company's profitable growth.  His efforts have enabled Merrill to be the recognized technology leader in the markets we serve.  In this new role he will work more closely with the business unit management team to grow the business by developing new ways to provide our clients the best service, technology and value the industry has to offer." According to Atterbury, Merrill has taken a new approach to business in the past year, tightly aligning its sales, marketing, operations and technology talents.  "In this new technology-savvy age, we are well positioned to continue our growth," Atterbury said. "I will be focusing my time on growth strategies that will further diversify the business, expand our market leadership and ultimately drive long-term results for our stakeholders," Castro said. Atterbury began his career with Merrill Corporation in 1976.  Since that time, he has held numerous leadership roles in operations, strategic planning, marketing and technology.  Most recently he was the company's executive vice president and chief technology officer.
