Xerox Gains No. 1 Position in U.S. Color Page Printer Market

Press release from the issuing company

25 Percent Unit Shipment Growth Year-Over-Year Driven by Product Innovation WILSONVILLE, Ore.--Aug. 28, 2002--Xerox Corporation has moved into the top market share position in the fast-growing U.S. color page printer market, according to IDC's most recent U.S. Printer Tracker. For the second quarter of 2002, IDC confirmed Xerox's No. 1 position by reporting a 29 percent market share - reflecting a 25 percent unit shipment growth year-over-year. Xerox attributes its growth to the recent introduction of several award-winning Phaser network color printers, including the Phaser 6200 color laser printer, the Phaser 8200 solid ink color printer, and the Phaser 7700 tabloid color laser printer. The printers demonstrate Xerox's strength in single pass color printing technologies, which enable a printer to deposit all colors on paper in one pass, rather than the four passes required by traditional color laser printers. The speed, print quality and reliability of these printers is luring customers and taking market share from competitors. "Xerox is committed to the color page printer market and innovates with its single pass and solid ink technologies," said Angele Boyd, group vice president, IDC. "Network color printing is the highest growth area in the overall printer market, and we intend to continue our technology leadership in this segment," said Jim Miller, president, Xerox Office Printing Business. "The breadth and quality of Xerox network color printers is unmatched by any other vendor, and we are seeing the results in the marketplace." In addition to market share growth, Xerox recently was rated the No. 1 network color printer vendor in the 2002 VARBusiness Annual Report Card. Now in its 17th year, the VARBusiness Annual Report Card has become the industry standard in recognizing outstanding programs designed for resellers in product and service categories. Channel partners were asked to rate their satisfaction with Xerox products, support and partner activities, and the results show that Xerox is ahead of its competitors in each category.
