Monday, August 26, 2002 -- Vienna, VA – mPortal Inc, a leading edge wireless solutions company, announced today an agreement to deliver a wireless field service solution to Xerox Corporation. Xerox and mPortal have completed a pilot program and are now launching a large-scale deployment of a wireless field service solution. The solution is expected to improve customer service and reduce costs by allowing Xerox Customer Service Engineers (CSEs) to wirelessly access and update customer information, including daily work orders. “This solution builds on Xerox’s experience with the advantages that mobility can bring both to its business and its clients,” said D.P. Venkatesh, CEO of mPortal Inc. “With the mobile field service application, we believe Xerox is even better positioned to deliver its efficient, quality customer service.” The solution was designed and developed by mPortal on top of its Enterprise Everywhere™ mobile application platform. The application runs through the mPortal server to Xerox’s existing proprietary back-end systems. All Xerox CSEs in North America will be using the mPortal solution by the end of the year. “We think mPortal’s mobile field solution will be a solid addition to the tools we use to improve our service capabilities,” said William Steenburgh, senior vice president of Xerox Services, North American Solutions Group. “It enables us to respond to our customers more quickly and to make optimal use of our most important asset - our people. Better service and more competitive costs mean a win for our customers and a win for Xerox.” mPortal focuses on rapid delivery of mobile solutions that allow enterprises to realize immediate return-on-investment. mPortal provided Xerox a solution that includes the J2ME client, the mPortal server, and a Web-based administration console. The ability to build seamless J2ME applications that connect to enterprise back-end systems puts mPortal’s middleware platform at the forefront of the mobile industry. The application takes advantage of various J2ME capabilities such as on and off line processing, allowing Xerox service engineers to work efficiently in real time as well as perform multiple service calls without needing to access the network.
