R.R. Donnelley & Dirxion Provide Digital Solution for Telephone Publishers

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, August 12, 2002 - Providing telephone directory publishers with smart solutions for their business products is just one way R.R. Donnelley [NYSE:DNY] partners with its customers. In a move to further demonstrate this strong customer focus, the company has formed a three-year partnership agreement with Dirxion Software to produce CD-ROM telephone directories. Dirxion Software, based in St. Louis, Mo., creates the software and processes that make the data "look and feel" like the printed directories delivered to homes and offices. This relationship will leverage R.R. Donnelley's strengths of content conversion and manufacturing to increase the production effectiveness of the Dirxion directory format. Dirxion will apply its expertise in research and development and engineering to create new solutions that enrich the value of this product for customer applications. Under the agreement, R.R. Donnelley will be licensed to resell Dirxion's software as part of a subcontracting arrangement. Both companies will be responsible for marketing and selling the product in a seamless solution. "Our publishing customers relentlessly look for ways to complement printed directories," said Susan Snowden, senior vice president, R.R. Donnelley Print Solutions. "Our alliance with Dirxion and this digital product will assist our publishing customers to increase revenue and meet consumer needs." "This agreement with R.R Donnelley allows Dirxion Software to focus on innovation in the digital white and yellow pages," said Steve Mitchener, president, Dirxion Software. "It strengthens our manufacturing capacity and leverages R.R. Donnelley's existing leadership in the printed directory industry."
