Without Pause, Quad/Graphics Rolls On as Tom Quadracci Takes the Helm

Press release from the issuing company

August 12, 2002 -- Quad/Graphics provided an executive update and detailed information about their new CEO, Tom Quadracci. The statement is below. As individuals and employees, everyone at Quad/Graphics is deeply saddened by the loss of our leader, Harry V. "Larry" Quadracci.  And though we grieve for our loss, one legacy of Harry's vision and vigor is the strength of the Quad/Graphics organization, which now encompasses 35 print-production and parcel sortation facilities and 12,000 employee-owners. Without pause, Quad/Graphics is continuing to serve clients the only way it knows how -- through close, personal relationships. Leading the way, as it has always done, is the Quadracci family, a third-generation printing family whose members have devoted their lives to putting ink on paper. Now at the helm of Quad/Graphics is President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Quadracci, Harry's brother and a company co-founder and member of the board of directors. Tom is a familiar leader to Quad/Graphics employees and to those among the company's clientele and the greater graphic arts industry. Tom has been instrumental in the formation and accelerated growth of Quad/Graphics, having joined the company in 1971 as one of the 11 co-founders. Out of necessity and eagerness, he learned and excelled at all aspects of print production. In 1974, he became Plant Manager of the company's original production facility in Pewaukee, Wis. Just three years later, in 1977, Tom was named Vice President of Manufacturing and Technology. In 1979, he helped launch QTI (a.k.a. Quad/Tech), our R&D division, and, in 1980, added President of QTI to his responsibilities. Most recently, Tom was Executive Vice President of Quad/Graphics -- the company's No. 2 executive -- and was acutely involved in the long-term strategic development of the corporation. In this role, and during his time as Vice President of Manufacturing and Technology, he oversaw capital expenditure prioritization and financial planning for the entire company, guided the corporation's aggressive international expansion and directed Quad's selection and integration of the printing industry's most modern equipment and technology. Now, as President and CEO of Quad/Graphics, Tom will continue to fulfill his role as a long-time member of our Board of Directors. As far as his role as President of QTI, Tom hands the reigns to Karl Fritchen, a 17-year veteran of the company who has been instrumental in building QTI's sales efforts worldwide. Most recently Karl served as QTI's Vice President of Sales. Tom graduated from Regis University in Denver, Colo., earning a bachelor of science degree in biology and psychology. He attended Stanford University's School of Chemistry before helping found Quad/Graphics with his brother, Harry, in 1971. A Wisconsin native, Tom is President of the Web Offset Association's Board of Directors, and a board member of various industry and civic organizations. Tom and his wife, Susan, who is also a Quad/Graphics employee, live in southeastern Wisconsin. They have two grown sons, Mario and David – both of whom follow in the family business. Susan is manager of Quad/Boutique, Mario is an editorial assistant at Milwaukee Magazine and David is a QTI design engineer.                           Other members who are committed, more than ever, to fulfilling Harry Quadracci's legacy are: --Betty Quadracci (Harry's wife and life-long partner), President of Quad/Creative and Publisher of Milwaukee Magazine, and a Quad/Graphics Co-Founder --Joel Quadracci (Harry's son), Vice President of Print Sales --Elizabeth Quadracci (Harry's daughter), New York City Sales Manager and Director of Client Marketing --Dr. Leonard Quadracci (Tom and Harry's brother), Director of Medical Services and President of Quad/Med, LLC --Robert Quadracci (Tom and Harry's nephew), Corporate Employee Services Manager --John Quadracci (Tom and Harry's nephew), Imaging Manager for Corporate Integration --Jennifer Quadracci (Tom and Harry's niece), Account Executive for Quad/Med, LLC Other members of the Quadracci and Ewens (Betty's family) families work in various capacities at Quad/Graphics as well.
