SWOP Approves New Proofing Paper, 60# Monterrey Gloss

Press release from the issuing company

CARLSTADT, NJ – August 5, 2002 – At a recent meeting at Sun Chemical Company, the Board of Directors of SWOP, Inc. announced their approval of 60# Monterrey Gloss as an acceptable alternative proofing stock for Text Web proofing paper, which has been discontinued. After a full review of the paper characteristics and of several recent press tests, the Board found this paper to meet all proofing stock requirements as published in the 9th Edition of the Specifications for Web Offset Publications (SWOP). The paper also was successfully run on various Off-Press proofing devices that specify the use of a paper substrate. Joel Rubin, SWOP Chairman reports, "We are very pleased with the runability of this stock. The brightness, color characteristics, and UV content all fall well within the acceptable range of the SWOP specifications. We think this paper will serve the publication printing industry well and hope ad agencies and publishers will adopt it's use very quickly." Monterrey Gloss is produced by the Tembec Paper Company. It is SWOP's intention to select the appropriate distribution strategy for this stock, so that it will be available nationwide. This paper stock is one of several paper stocks that fall within the SWOP specifications for proofing paper. These #5 groundwood papers, however, are generally not available in sheet form for proofing and it has been SWOP's goal to make a paper available that will meet all of the necessary requirements for proofing on sheet-fed presses. For more information about SWOP paper stock criteria, please refer to the 9th Edition SWOP Specifications, "SWOP for the New Millennium." For updates on the distribution and availability of the paper, please check the SWOP website at www.SWOP.org
