Enfocus Receives GATF InterTech Award for Certified PDF Workflow Technology

Press release from the issuing company

Gent, BELGIUM & San Mateo, CA -- July 25, 2002 – Enfocus Software is proud to announce that The Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) has bestowed a 2002 GATF InterTech Technology Award recognizing Enfocus’ innovative Certified PDF Workflow technology. Inaugurated in 1978 to build awareness and understanding of advanced graphic arts technology, the GATF InterTech Award honors innovative technologies predicted to have a major impact on production and profitability for the graphic communications industry. ”This is a wonderful affirmation of our PDF leadership,” comments Peter Camps, Enfocus Chief Executive Officer. ”Certainly when we introduced our Certified PDF, we strongly believed that we had developed significant technology in the area of PDF quality assurance for graphic arts. Since the introduction and growing adoption of Certified PDF by customers worldwide, we've had highly positive testimony from our users, partners and the industry. The GATF 2002 InterTech Award is a considerable honor and recognition of the impact of our technologies in graphic arts." According to GATF, Enfocus received its award for the Enfocus Certified PDF workflow, which takes PDF preflight upstream to the creation stage and provides total quality control and predictable output. The recipient can be sure the PDF is compliant with his/her production specs and can track all changes throughout the workflow. The result of Enfocus closing the loop on quality control for PDF workflows is unprecedented reliability and predictability in digital file exchange. “Nearly everyone has saved a job or saved the customer by Enfocus fixing the file. Furthermore Enfocus is taking the industry in the right direction by pushing preflighting into the design studio,” noted a GATF judge. GATF sponsors the award and coordinates the award process, but does not select the recipients. InterTech Technology Award recipients are chosen by an anonymous judging committee comprised of industry experts and users who are independent of GATF. Companies are not required to be GATF/PIA members to submit technologies for judging. The InterTech Technology Awards will be presented at the Industry Awards Reception and Dinner, Saturday, November 16, 2002 during the GATF/PIA Administrative Meetings at the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. Enfocus Customer Nominations: Roularta Media Group Roularta Media Group is one of Belgium’s leading publishing houses, producing many magazine and newspaper titles and playing a lead role in the country’s broadcast industry. In the nomination letter from Roularta’s Erwin Danis, Pre-Media Director, it is stated that since implementing Enfocus’ Certified Workflow, “the results have been dramatic – and even had a profound influence on the entire Belgian publishing industry. “Time means money to any organization. In the high-value world of advertising, the transfer of graphics files between agencies, publishers, broadcasters and media buyers is a critical, time-sensitive process that is carried out hundreds of times each day, thanks to the efficiencies of all-digital workflows. With Enfocus Certified PDF we have been able to establish an extremely time- and cost-efficient workflow and we and our clients are extremely happy with the results achieved so far.” Rotosmeets De Boer Jo Brunenberg, Director of Technology Development for Rotosmeets De Boer (RSDB), one of the largest graphic concerns in The Netherlands, said in the company’s letter of nomination, “The use of Certified PDF profiles provides an ideal way for the advertising industry to ensure proper PDF preparation. Files that have been created using Certified PDF are correct and ready to print 99.9% of the time. “Certified PDF has absolutely streamlined our production flow, saved a lot of time in the production process and considerably reduced last-minute stress before press time. In fact, we are so convinced of the value of Certified PDF that we are implementing the same standards for all commercial printing jobs.” Stephens & George A nomination by Jon Bessant, Systems Manager, Reprographics for Stephens & George, a medium-sized magazine printer based in the south of Wales in the UK, cited, “The adoption of a Certified PDF-based workflow has dramatically improved our file exchange efficiency - saving both time and money. Files can now first be checked at client locations, where compliance to PDF document profiles is determined. Before implementation of Certified PDF, more than one-third of files received had to be returned to clients and corrected. With a Certified PDF workflow now in place, our current incoming file error rate has been reduced to virtually zero. As a result, we are now able to handle approximately 200 files per minute – a volume that previously took up to 30 minutes. Enfocus Certified PDF files can be processed much faster, allowing us to print more magazine titles in less time.” Walsworth Publishing Company Grant Fritch is Director of Technology/RD at Walsworth Publishing Company, among the leading family-owned printing and publishing companies in the United States and one of the continent’s largest school yearbook publishers. In a nomination letter to the GATF InterTech judging committee, Fritch said, “Walsworth works with thousands of customers, many of whom are submitting production files in PDF format. The evangelization and education of this process is helped tremendously by the work that Enfocus does. The tools that they provide enable our customers and ourselves the ability to work with the PDF format.”
