Hewlett-Packard To Terminate Printer Pact With Dell

Press release from the issuing company

July 24, 2002 -- (WhatTheyThink.com) Hewlett-Packard said yesterday that it has notified Dell Computer of its intent to discontinue its relationship with the company as a reseller of HP imaging and printing products. HP spokeswoman Diane Roncal told Dow Jones Newswires that given Dell's intent to sell its own branded printers, it no longer wants to do business with Dell. Dow Jones reported that in recent weeks, speculation has abounded that Dell would enter the printer market. Analysts have predicted that Dell would most likely acquire a company like Lexmark. Last week Dell president Kevin Rollins told shareholders at its annual shareholder meeting that the company is likely to make a bigger push into the lucrative printer market by the end of the year, most likely by partnering with an existing printer manufacture to sell Dell branded printers and ink cartridges.
