Konica Corporation Exclusive NewspaperDirect Licensee for Japan

Print-on-Demand Newspaper Service to be Branded ``Konica NewspaperDirect'' NEW YORK--July 23, 2002--NewspaperDirect, the leading innovator in out-of-market newspaper delivery, today named Konica Corporation as its exclusive license partner for Japan. The service will be deployed throughout Japan as "Konica NewspaperDirect." NewspaperDirect's selection of over 135 newspaper titles will now be available at installations using Konica equipment throughout Japan. "We are honored to have Konica Corporation as our Japanese partner," said Richard Miller, Vice President, Sales and Marketing of NewspaperDirect. "We believe this mutually beneficial partnership will highlight the advantages of print-on-demand newspapers in one of the most important markets in the world." "Konica has been impressed with NewspaperDirect's technology and extensive list of prestigious, global newspaper titles," said Mark Kamei, General Manager, On-Demand Printing Division, Konica Business Machine Japan, "We think there is a strong market for the NewspaperDirect product in Japan and believe that we will be very successful." Konica plans a quick roll out of the service throughout Japan, leveraging its network of printing partners and existing newspaper distribution channels to supply hotels, retail, businesses and subscribers with out-of-market newspapers. Tourists and foreigners will be able to read their favorite newspaper throughout Japan. Konica and its partners printed NewspaperDirect newspapers for distribution at the 2002 World Cup in Japan.
