Pittsburgh, Pa., July 23, 2002 — Howard "Howie" Fenton, a nationally known author, trainer, consultant, and speaker on digital technologies in the graphic arts field, is the latest to join PIA/GATF Solutions OnSite as an independent consultant. Operating under DTP Ink (DeskTop Prepress for Print) in Thornton, Colorado, Fenton specializes in digital prepress production methods, techniques, and equipment. His areas of expertise includes streamlining prepress production focusing on workflow management, preflight problems, color management, implementing process control / inspection procedures, on-demand printing equipment and management, computer-to-plate technologies, new product market research and justification, equipment feasibility analysis, and cost justification. An active writer, Fenton publishes Digital Technology. Those interested in receiving this free email newsletter distributed to over 800 of his consulting clients and seminar attendees can send requests to HowieAtPre@aol.com and write "trail subscription" in the subject. Fenton served as editor of Pre- magazine from 1991–1993 and has authored scripts for the Agfa Across America seminars, Apple PowerTools for Publishing seminar, and the Banta Technovation series. He also penned two books for the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF): On-Demand Printing and On-Demand & Digital Printing Primer. Fenton was formerly a senior consultant of digital technology for GATF, which he joined in 1995. He has worked as a consultant in the graphic arts for over a decade and performs over 35 digital prepress audits a year. As a popular speaker at trade shows, Fenton presents over 50 seminars a year. Having owned a graphics company, managed a Kinko’s outlet, taught advanced computer graphics at Montclair State College, and managed a prepress facility, Fenton brings practical knowledge to his position as one of the two dozen independent consultants for PIA/GATF’s Solutions OnSite. Since consolidating in January 1999, GATF and Printing Industries of America (PIA) combined resources to produce the industry’s most comprehensive consulting service. GATF’s technical experts work with PIA’s management consultants to cover virtually all of the dimensions critical to managing a successful printing business: electronic prepress, pressroom and finishing operations, business, production and financial management, environmental, health and safety, sales and marketing, and total quality management. Small, medium, and large printing companies benefit by using one team to identify solutions for reducing costs and increasing profits.
