Quad/Graphics Honored Again as Time Inc. Printer of the Year

Press release from the issuing company

March 11, 2002 - For a third consecutive year, Quad/Graphics has earned Time Inc.'s Printer of the Year award. The title, sought by printing companies and facilities across the United States, is one of the highest honors a printer can earn for outstanding performance. The award, bestowed by the publisher of popular consumer magazines and a division of AOL Time Warner, recognized the Saratoga Springs, N.Y., plant's superior production of Time, Sports Illustrated and People Weekly magazines during the previous calendar year. "Quad/Saratoga's performance was top notch in 2001, and the Time Inc. plant rankings reflect that," said Guy Gleysteen, Director of Printing for Time Inc. "What's really important though is the fact that the performance has been tops for the past three years in a row — consistency and performance is what it's all about." Mr. Gleysteen presented the Printer of the Year award to Quad/Graphics at a reception at the Saratoga Springs plant on Friday, March 8. The reception also marked Quad/Graphics' and Time Inc.'s 20th anniversary of partnering to manufacture magazines. In determining its Printer of the Year, Time Inc. grades each printing facility on bindery speed, paper waste, quality of product, overall turnaround time and customer service. "This is a tremendous honor for Quad/Graphics and all of our employees in Saratoga," said Stuart Mason, Plant Manager. "We couldn't have accomplished this without a team effort and peak-performing employees in prepress, press, post-press, distribution and service areas." Quad’s Saratoga facility — the single-largest producer of newsweekly magazines in the Northeast — manufactures nearly 2.7 million copies of Time, Sports Illustrated and People Weekly each week, among dozens of other magazines published by Time Inc. and other leading publishing companies. In addition to Saratoga Springs, Quad/Graphics also prints magazines for Time Inc. at its facilities in The Rock, Ga., and Hartford, Wis.
