Extensis Partners with WAM!NET to Offer Preflight Online Services

Press release from the issuing company

PORTLAND, Ore.--Feb. 19, 2002--Extensis today announced that it has entered into a partnership with WAM!NET, a global provider of enterprise-wide digital content delivery and hosting solutions, to sell integrated preflight and file-transfer solutions to customers in the print and publishing industries. Under the agreement, WAM!NET will now offer Extensis preflighting technology in its secure, fully managed file transport and content storage services. Preflighting services will be provided through Extensis Preflight Online, the company's patent-pending web-based preflighting service. "When it comes to managing today's increasingly complex digital workflows, publishers and print service providers are looking for integrated solutions that can address multiple processes seamlessly. They want to insure that the jobs are print-ready and free from problems and they want a fast and secure method for delivering jobs to printers,'' said Joseph Schorr, senior product manager at Extensis. "Combining Preflight Online with WAM!NET's content delivery services makes for a total solution -- one that virtually guarantees the reliable delivery of error-free files.'' "Our global base of printing and publishing customers have realized significant cost savings and cycle time reductions by incorporating WAM!NET's content distribution services into their workflows,'' said Tim Elliott, executive director, WAM!NET Global Marketing. "By complementing our services with Extensis Preflight Online, we help our customers to enable even faster turnaround times against tight deadlines, while ensuring the integrity of the content itself.'' With an integrated Extensis/WAM!NET solution installed, customers can first run jobs through Preflight Online to make sure they meet the required print specifications and quickly move the files from their LAN to a dedicated WAM!NET network interface device (the "Purple Box'') for secure, managed transfer and delivery across the WAM!NET network. Customers also may upload print-verified jobs using WAM!NET Internet Gateway or WAM!NET WorkSpace -- file transfer and storage services that are accessible through a standard FTP client or Web browser. For customers that do not have a WAM!NET Purple Box and choose not to build an internal FTP solution, WAM!NET WorkSpace serves as a virtual FTP server, allowing for creation of multiple customer accounts and a repository for print jobs until they are ready for production. "The Extensis/WAM!NET combination is an ideal solution for service providers who are concerned about the security of incoming files,'' said Ed Zepernick, director of prepress for Continental Web Press, which began using Preflight Online last year. "Jobs delivered using Preflight Online can be routed directly into a secure WAM!NET Purple Box, instead of sitting on a publicly-accessible FTP server.''
