Xerox Named Preferred Supplier of Daily News Printing in Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY--Feb. 7, 2002-- Visitors to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games will be reading their hometown newspapers here - the same day they're published - thanks to state-of-the-art technology from Xerox Corporation and NewspaperDirect. Xerox Corporation today announced that it is the preferred printer supplier for NewspaperDirect's international newspaper distribution for the 2002 Winter Olympics. The deal involves the purchase of 15 Xerox DocuPrint N4525 network laser printers, one of the industry's fastest high-volume black-and-white printers, at speeds of 45 pages per minute and a four second first-page-out time. During the Olympic Games, the printers will produce approximately two million newspaper pages. "The 2002 Winter Olympics provide a unique opportunity to demonstrate NewspaperDirect's ability to deliver same-day editions of the world's newspapers to out-of-market readers,'' said Miljenko Horvat, president and chief executive officer of NewspaperDirect. "Xerox's proven printing technology provides the speed and reliability to meet these daily demands.'' NewspaperDirect, which has an exclusive distribution agreement for out-of-market print-on-demand newspapers at the 2002 Olympic games, will be partnering with the Newspaper Agency Corporation in Salt Lake City to print and distribute approximately 80,000 international newspapers to attendees, athletes and media personnel at the Games. The newspapers will be available for sale daily at locations throughout the greater Salt Lake City area including, more than 20 local area hotels and select bookstores and restaurants. They also will be distributed to the Athlete's Village and Media Expo. In total, more than 100 newspaper titles will be available, with premium distribution provided for the The Washington Post, Globe & Mail (Toronto), International Herald Tribune, La Stampa (Italy), Il Giornale (Italy), Neue Zurcher Zeitung (Switzerland), Aftenposten (Norway), Algemeen Dagblad (Netherlands), Suddeutsche Zeitung (Germany), Dong-A Ilbo (South Korea), and The Daily Telegraph (UK) "Our partnership with NewspaperDirect is proof positive of how Xerox is leading the printer market in both performance and productivity,'' said Allen Vasan, of the Xerox Canada Office Printing Business.
