Konica Announces Fiery Z5 Print Controller for 7920 Color Imaging System

Press release from the issuing company

WINDSOR, Conn.--Feb. 5, 2002--Konica Business Technologies announced the immediate availability of Electronics for Imaging's (EFI) Fiery Z5 print controller for its 7920 Color Imaging System. The Z5 brings a new level of performance and quality to a variety of environments, from corporate departments to print-for-pay shops. The Z5 combines an 866 MHz processor and enhanced software architecture to handle complex color documents with ease. With standard Fiery ColorWise color management technology, the Z5 provides unprecedented color control and accuracy for the production and high-end graphics markets. ColorWise is a truly open color management system that fully supports ICC color profiles, including those created with Fiery's ColorWise ProTools; PANTONE color matching, Fiery Profile Manager(TM), Fiery Color Editor(TM) and Fiery Print Calibrator(TM). Developed to face today's challenging workflow requirements, the Z5 offers unique document handling and finishing tools, such as variable data printing and the first server-based, in-RIP imposition application. Standard on the Z5 are the Fiery Command Workstation, a centralized location for complete printer job management, and Fiery FreeForm(TM), a variable data printing solution built into the Z5 server that allows users to create master templates and merge variable information from any front-end application. The Z5 also supports network scanning with the Fiery WebScan utility that stores images on the Z5 print controller for retrieval at the desktop. "The Z5's power and performance optimize the 7920's ability to meet consumer demand for dependability and quality in the color environment,'' said Kevin Kern, vice president, product development and support, Konica Business Technologies, Inc. "The combination of the Z5 and the 7920 provides our customers with the leading color technology available on the market today, a sign of our commitment to color.'' Also available with the Z5 is Fiery DocBuilder(TM) Pro software, a server-based imposition application. Once source documents are converted to PDF files, DocBuilder Pro enables entire documents to be previewed, edited and assembled before RIPing the files. Other optional features on the Z5 include a FACI kit (flat panel monitor, keyboard and mouse), a second CPU, and 256MB memory upgrade.
