Avery Dennison Announces Delay in Jackstadt Acquisition Closing

Time Extension to be Granted for Further Regulatory Review PASADENA, Calif.---Jan. 14, 2002--Avery Dennison says that completion of the previously announced acquisition of Jackstadt GmbH has been delayed pending further review by the German Federal Cartel Office. A time extension will be granted in order for Avery Dennison and Jackstadt to file additional information with regulators in Germany. Avery Dennison announced the definitive agreement for the transaction on September 7, 2001. While the timing and ultimate outcome of the final regulatory review of this transaction are currently unknown, both Avery Dennison and Jackstadt hope for resolution within the next few months.
