Pantone & ColorVision Add Printer Profiling Solutions

Press release from the issuing company

SAN FRANCISCO – January 8, 2002 – Today at Macworld San Francisco (Booth 2229), Pantone, Inc. and ColorVision Inc., a Datacolor company, announce the availability of ProfilerPLUS, ProfilerPRO and DoctorPRO software for creating and editing printer profiles. These printer profiling tools work as an adjunct to the award-winning LCD/CRT Spyder for monitor calibration, joining the PANTONE COLORVISION product line of easy and accurate color control solutions for photo, design and prepress applications. Graphic designers, photographers, printers and prepress professionals now have affordable and simple solutions for specifying color, calibrating displays, profiling printers and confirming color accuracy, provided in exclusive product bundles tailored to their specific needs. “The PANTONE COLORVISION line of products will improve color work flow for the creative professional,” said Richard Herbert, president of Pantone. “The most basic measure we recommend is to calibrate the monitor; printer profiling is the next step.” “If you stick with OEM ink and paper, “canned” profiles may be sufficient,” said Brian Levey, vice president of ColorVision. “But, this is rarely the case. The PANTONE COLORVISION printer profiling products provide affordable, simple-to-use solutions for creating custom printer profiles.” The new ProfilerPLUS software is a simple-to-use plug-in for Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements that creates scanner-based RGB or CMYK profiles for color printers, PostScript printers and RIPs. ProfilerPRO software includes DoctorPRO and is a simple-to-use plug-in for Adobe Photoshop that creates as well as edits high-quality CMYK and RGB profiles for RGB printers, Postscript printers and RIPs using your choice of spectrophotometers. ProfilerPRO includes all of the capabilities of ProfilerPLUS, so if there is no measuring device available, it can build profiles from scanned image files. The mainstay of the PANTONE COLORVISION product line is the LCD/CRT Spyder, an all-digital, seven-filter colorimeter for both LCD and CRT monitors. The Spyder is supported by OptiCAL software for the graphics professional or PhotoCAL software for the color enthusiast. System Requirements, Pricing and Availability System requirements include a CRT or LCD monitor; Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x or Windows 98/2000/ME; USB; Adobe Photoshop 5.02 or greater; color printer/Postscript printer or RIP; flatbed reflective scanner, 300 dpi or better for scanner-based profiling, or supported spectrophotometer for spectro-based profiling.
