The new product provides workgroups and corporations a centralized, server-based solution for high-volume Adobe PostScript to Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file conversion. Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 gives IT and creative professionals greater control over large-scale Adobe PDF creation through enhanced document security options, sophisticated font and language support, tools for simplified administration, and support for the eXtensible Markup Language (XML). IT professionals who incorporate Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 as part of document management and fulfillment systems will benefit from the product's improved support for standard enterprise application platforms like Windows 2000 and Windows XP, granular file security options, and support for XML metadata. The result is a powerful and efficient solution for converting files from back-end, server-based applications to Adobe PDF. Creative professionals in industries like Web and print publishing require strong, centralized control of Adobe PDF creation. To deliver on this need, Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 provides tools for simplified administration, support for sophisticated font options like Asian font embedding and search controls, improved PostScript color management, and enhanced blend detection that results in smaller Adobe PDF files. Pricing and Availability Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 is expected to ship by the end of January 2002 in English, French, German, and Japanese versions for Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 5 or 6, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and in English for Sun Solaris(TM) 2.6, 7 and 8, and Red Hat Linux 6.x and 7.1. Pricing for 100 users will begin at an estimated street price of US$5,000, with licensing pricing for larger purchases as low as US$4,250.
