TechBooks to Sell Print Division to Existing Management, York is Back

Press release from the issuing company

FAIRFAX, Va., Dec. 11 -- TechBooks has entered into an agreement to sell its Print Division to a group of TechBooks executive managers, led by Jim Kell, Jr., senior vice president of the division. The sale is part of TechBooks' strategy for focusing on its core business, which is producing cross-media content, President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas F. Cunningham said. Cunningham explained. "Our recent acquisitions and the planned sale of our print division will further strengthen our ability to serve clients that need content produced for Web sites, online databases, e-books, wireless devices, and print formats. We are especially pleased to be working with current management on the sale of the print division because their strength and experience position them for continued success in the printing business.'' he added. The parties involved expect to complete the transaction prior to December 30, 2001. The new print company will operate under the name York Graphic Services, a familiar name in the regional printing industry. TechBooks formed its Print Division in 1999 after purchasing York Graphic Services in York, PA. The new York Graphic Services will be led by Jim Kell, Jr., who was employed with the original company and has headed TechBooks' Print Division for the past year and a half. Kell brings to the job more than 18 years of experience in sheet-fed and Web-printing operations for the book, commercial and publication markets. He has been responsible for driving the sales and operations growth of such major printing firms as Wilcox Press in Ithaca, NY and the Maple-Vail Book Manufacturing Group in York, PA. Like TechBooks' current Print Division, the new York Graphic Services will specialize in printing corporate-identity material, catalogs, magazines, brochures, annual reports, posters and limited-edition art prints. Kell said the company, which will continue to operate at its current York, PA location, also will offer a variety of front-end services, ranging from copy writing and editing to design and layout.
