Heidelberg Will Advance New Strategy: The Heart Being Digital Printing

Press release from the issuing company

Heidelberg has devised a three-pronged strategy to tackle the challenges of the next few years in the graphic arts industry. As the Chairman of the Management Board, Bernhard Schreier, told representatives of the European trade press, this will involve expanding the company's market leadership in the offset sector and taking over market leadership of the postpress sector. The third objective of the strategy, according to Mr. Schreier, involves digital printing. Heidelberg is aiming to become a major international player in this sector over the course of the next few years. "It is important not to view these goals in isolation, but rather to link the individual segments together intelligently and – in the interests of the customer – to ensure that this is transparent," stated Mr. Schreier. The world market leader in the graphic arts industry is focusing its strategy on digital printing. The company aims to take advantage of two-figure growth rates, especially in the color sector. The sales launch of the NexPress 2100 at the "Print" trade show in Chicago has helped Heidelberg expand its product portfolio to include a color solution. At CeBIT in March 2002 in Hanover, the company will present its complete digital solutions package linked to practice-oriented applications. For the IPEX trade show in April 2002 in Birmingham, UK, Heidelberg announced another Prinect module for quality control. In the "newspaper" sector, Heidelberg has already sold twelve configurations of the Mainstream 80 rotary press unveiled at drupa 2000. The company anticipates further growth in this segment too over the next few years. In the web offset sector, the company was pleased to announce the sale of the 1,500th printing unit in the M-600 series.
