UNIPRIX and Transcontinental Sign Seven Year $75 Million Deal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--UNIPRIX and Transcontinental have announced a major seven-year contract worth about $75 million. Transcontinental will provide a turnkey service that includes the design, prepress, printing and distribution by Publi-Sac of about two million flyers per week for the network of some 200 drugstores affiliated with UNIPRIX across Quebec. Said François Castonguay, President and Chief Executive Officer of UNIPRIX, "Putting out a weekly flyer on a very tight production schedule and reaching the consumer quickly is a significant printing and distributing challenge. Transcontinental, with its advanced digital technologies and turnkey service, provides the best value and service for the money. As we start our 25th year of operations, UNIPRIX is in a better position than ever to meet the new needs of our franchisees and consumers and reach our growth targets.'' Remi Marcoux, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Transcontinental Group said, "UNIPRIX is a leader in its market and we appreciate their confidence in the Transcontinental family. We submitted an integrated bid based on the innovative digital technology that makes us stand out from the competition. We'll also be working with our partner on the graphic design of its flyer to make it the North American model in its industry. With over 235 points of sale under the Uniprix and Uniclinique banners, Uniprix inc. is the second largest chain of owner-operated drugstores in Quebec. Annual sales for head office and points of sale combined are $860 million.
