Telegraph Publishing Installs Two Bluefin Imagesetters from ECRM

Press release from the issuing company

HUDSON, NH - The publisher of New Hampshire's Nashua Telegraph, has installed two 25-inch wide Bluefin imagesetters from Tewksbury, Mass-based ECRM Imaging Systems. William Tyers, production manager Telegraph Publishing Co., which publishes the 168-year-old daily, cited productivity and flexibility as reasons for the acquisition of the two devices. He cited "the Bluefin's custom punching capabilities, which can be configured on the fly, and enable prepress staff to create many film and punch sizes quickly, without changing film roll sizes." The Telegraph's daily news and commercial work is produced on a single and a double-width press and ranges from broadsheet to double truck, four-up tabloid, and eight-up, half-tabloid formats. By installing the Bluefins, Tyers said, the Telegraph has saved production time and eliminated film waste that occurred when the company's many different page sizes were run on existing devices from other vendors, requiring trimming of excess film or changing film size because of their limited punching capability and flexibility. The first Bluefin was installed and in production in less than two days. Both are being used for all of the company's editorial and commercial work, which includes six weeklies and a Boston-area controlled-circulation daily. The prepress department generates an average weekly count of 970 pages. The Bluefin, introduced by ECRM in September, is capable of producing up to 130 punched and cut broadsheet pages per hour, using a unique new imaging technology. ECRM engineers developed a zoned vacuum drum, which maintains constant tension on the imaging media during punching and cutting. This enables the Bluefin to achieve high throughput rates and provides flexibility in handling the many different punching requirements typical in newspaper production environments. Established in 1832 as a weekly, and published daily since 1869, the Telegraph is a morning newspaper with an approximate circulation of 28,000 on weekdays and 34,000 on Sundays. It serves communities in southern New Hampshire with print and online information and news. It is also the northeast print site for the Financial Times, the financial paper originating in London. ECRM Imaging Systems develops, manufactures and markets imagesetters and thermal- and visible-light platesetters known for their high reliability, solid manufacture and aggressive pricing. Its platesetters have been responsible for lowering price thresholds for entry into CTP technology. The company also provides a range of workflow solutions to support the over 20,000 imagesetters and platesetters it has sold worldwide through dealers, distributors, and OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). Headquartered in Tewksbury, MA, near Boston, ECRM has offices in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Beijing.
