BEDFORD, MA -- November 27, 2001 -- CreoScitex, a division of Creo Products Inc., is pleased to announce that Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, an industry-leading manufacturer of paper- and paperboard-based packaging, is currently using the new Prinergy(r) Powerpack workflow management system created by CreoScitex especially for packaging converters and tradeshops. Smurfit-Stone, a leader in adopting digital technologies, has a seven-year history with CreoScitex and has helped to develop many of the company's most successful packaging-specific systems. "The Prinergy Powerpack workflow will give designated folding carton plants in Smurfit-Stone's Consumer Packaging division the opportunity to become more efficient in managing graphics," said Ron Goelz, manufacturing manager of the division. The open native PDF-based format used by Powerpack, along with an integrated database that improves accountability by recording each step in job production, is what the company likes best about the workflow. InSite, an integrated suite of Internet tools, is also key because it helps customers proof remotely, approve or reject jobs, and submit change requests over the web. "InSite is a very powerful tool that allows collaboration with sales representatives and customers on graphics issues," said Goelz. The efficiencies promised by Prinergy Powerpack also supplement Smurfit-Stone's CustomerONE operating philosophy which aims to deliver exceptional value to customers and shareholders; achieve profitability through a satisfied, growing customer base; and continually strive for operating excellence and efficiency. Prior to becoming a Powerpack beta site, Smurfit-Stone's CreoScitex installation consisted of four CreoScitex computer-to-plate systems (three Trendsetter(r) VLF platesetters, and a Trendsetter(r) 3244 platesetter) in four plants. The plates imaged on these devices print the packages for some of North America's best-known consumer brands.
