ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA (November 26, 2001) — Five of the industry’s leading statesmen were inducted into the PIA Ash Khan Honor Society at the annual black-tie affair held this year in St. Petersburg, Florida. Founded in 1951, the Ash Khan Society (AKS) recognizes printing industry leaders who have made lasting contributions to their industry and at the same time retain these contributions and use them and their abilities and experiences toward further betterment of the printing industry. Membership in the Ash Khan Society is confined to individuals who have actively engaged in the printing industry and who have rendered the industry outstanding service through participation in printing industry trade association work at the local or national level. Presiding AKS president, Donald C. Bishop, said at the ceremony, "We are very proud of our new members. I know you will agree with me that they have served this industry well with long and exemplary service to both the local and national trade associations. They have always been willing to undertake work for the industry and it is well know that they could be counted on to step forward anytime the industry needed their service." This year’s Inductees: Edward A. Harvey is the retired president the Printing Industry of Cincinnati, and he has served on many of the committees for the PIA Board of Directors and the Graphic Arts Employers of America. Ed was responsible for the Lock Out/Tag Out video that is used throughout the industry and many other initiatives on safety. The safety roundtable he set up in Cincinnati is a model for the whole industry. Harris R. Margolis, CPA, president H.R. Margolis Company, Bala Cynwyd, PA, is known as an originator and advocate of innovative financial concepts, designed to improve the efficiency and profitability of graphic arts firms. The author of dozens of articles and books which have helped members of our industry operate profitably. Harris introduced the concept of Value Added to the PIA Ratio Studies. The H.R. Margolis Company has been executing the PIA Annual Financial Ratios Survey process since 1965. Hans Peetz-Larsen, CEO of Heidelberg USA, has served the North American and International printing industry for over forty years. Hans was a member of the PIA Board of Directors and The Executive Committee for ten years. He was an advisor to the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation and Association for suppliers of Printing and Publishing Technologies. Hans also served on the PIA Presidents Conference Advisory Committee. Hans has received many honors over the years but this year, he was also voted the PIA Lewis Memorial Executive of the Year for his faithful service to our industry. William G. Rellar, retired president of RPI Graphic Data Solutions, Cincinnati, OH has served this industry faithfully for over 40 years. He was on the Printing Industries of America’s Long Range Planning Committee, the Economics and Research Committees for which he was chairman for many years, the PIA Government Affairs Committee and participated on PIA’s Historical Studies, Printing 2000 and Vision 21 committees. 1991 "Printer of the Year" the highest honor given by the Printing Week Council of greater Cincinnati which represents PIA, Litho Club and Craftsman’s Club. He was the 1998 President of the Waterless Association and currently services on their board. Warren D. Wilkins, CEO, Webcom Limited, Toronto, Ontario and former PIA Chairman of the Board for 1999-2000. Canadian Printing Industries, and served on the Board of the Ontario Printing Industries Association. In 1989 he was elected Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee of the Canadaian Printing Industries Association in Ottawa and in 1991 became Chairman of the Board for Canadian Printing Industries Association. In 1992 Warren was elected to the Board of PIA representing CPIA and ended his term as Chairman in 1999-2000. During his term as PIA Chairman of the Board, Warren supported the adoption and development of PIA's graphic arts portal, the Graphic Arts Information Network or www.gain.net. It was during his term in office, that PIA undertook the Vision 21 report.
