Mail-Well Receives Initial Orders for 2 Million Safety Window Envelopes

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 19 -- Mail-Well, Inc., the world's largest envelope manufacturer, today announced that it has received two separate orders for one million quantity each of its recently announcedVisulope(TM) safety window envelopes. The Visulope(TM) permits visual detection of unusual substances within an envelope by allowing mail handlers and recipients to look through windows that wrap around the bottom of the envelope. "We are pleased that our direct mail customers are responding positively to the Visulope(TM) concept,'' said Bob Hart, President and CEO of Mail-Well Envelope. "The Visulope(TM) is a product that we were able to put into production quickly that speaks specifically to the current need for greater security and comfort in our mail system. The Visulope(TM) can be customized to any mailer's specifications and we can deliver it very quickly in quantity,'' said Hart. Mail-Well Envelope's primary customers are large direct mailers and transactional mail customers, such as banks and credit card companies, that mail product announcements, bills and payment envelopes to millions of households every month. About one out of every four envelopes that comes to the average household's mailbox is made by Mail-Well Envelope, which produces more than 33 billion envelopes per year in 50 envelope plants across North America. In addition to the Visulope(TM), Mail-Well manufactures a separate line of Tamper-Evident Envelopes. The company is also working to develop envelope products that incorporate existing biological technologies, including the Contamination Alert Envelope, the Antibacterial Envelope and others. Mail-Well executives are consulting with top officials at the U.S. Postal Service, paper companies, scientists and other suppliers in order to create effective safety-oriented envelopes. "Direct mail is probably the safest component of the U.S. mail stream,'' said Hart. "Direct mail envelopes are manufactured, printed, packaged and shipped directly to automated mail facilities where high-speed machines insert the contents, attach address labels, and sort the mail. Other than when your letter carrier arrives at your house and places your mail in your box, the majority of this category of mail is untouched by human hands. Still, our goal is to take every step we can to raise the public's level of comfort with the mail they receive.'' Consumers can look for Mail-Well Visulopes(TM) to begin arriving in their mail boxes during the next several weeks from direct mailers who begin using them in their holiday mailing campaigns. The previously announced strategic plan will result in the company concentrating in its Envelope and Commercial Print segments where it holds today a leading position.
