SYDNEY, Australia---Nov. 6, 2001--Electronics For Imaging, Inc. Asia Pacific (EFI), the leader in software and hardware imaging solutions for networked printing, announced today the launch of the first black and white Fuji Xerox production device driven by a Fiery controller. The exciting Fiery Z5(TM) controller will power the newly released Document Centre 1010S -- a 101 page per minute copier/printer aimed at in-house print rooms and `print for pay' market segments. "Fuji Xerox chose EFI because of our proven record of producing high performance, reliable technology, and our deep understanding of the publishing markets,'' said Craig Saphin, Senior Director Asia Pacific for EFI. "We have a long term, close relationship with Fuji Xerox in Asia Pacific, which has led to this powerful solution.'' Howard Witt, Marketing General Manager, Production Printing at Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific agrees, "We have been working with EFI for a long period and know and respect their technology and people. Asia has often adopted network-capable printing faster than the USA and Europe and we needed to develop a product to meet the specific needs of our local markets. A tailor-made controller was crucial to the Document Centre 1010S' development cycle, and EFI was the only partner we considered.'' Powerful Features A number of unique features are available with this powerful Fiery Z5 controller, including high-level network and web functionality, LCD viewing and access to DocBuilder(TM) Pro(TM) software. According to Saphin, "Of significant benefit is the ability to cluster the Document Centre 1010S with other Fiery-powered color devices using EFI's Velocity workflow software. Many users are already familiar with the Fiery interface and processes, which make it much easier and faster to set up and start producing output.'' EFI's sophisticated Command WorkStation(TM) 3.0 software will be a standard option and the latest Netwise(TM) 3.0 technology will be offered with the server product. Fiery Webtools(TM), EFI's very easy to use web-based control software, will also be standard, allowing users to access all job control options -- such as job merging, edition and previews, as well as information on the status of the jobs, via any Internet browser. A powerful 866 MHZ processor will allow the Document Centre 1010S to process complex graphic output via the front-end at production speeds, meaning the print engine spends minimal time `idle'. The LCD controller allows users to view job status and use many of the controller's features by just pressing keys on the front panel. Fiery DocBuilder Pro allows entire documents to be previewed, edited, and assembled before RIPing. Documents such as booklets can be imposed before the RIP process via the Command WorkStation, regardless of the application or platform in which they were created. In cases where multiple users are contributing to a document, using different software or platforms, DocBuilder Pro can completely organize all of the material and deliver seamless output -- collated and finished -- without complicated workflows. Craig Saphin comments, "For example, one person may need to produce 100 copies of a report containing artwork from a Mac user, copy from a Microsoft Word file and charts from Excel. DocBuilder Pro removes hours of `manual' assembly work and produces a better looking result.'' Application Specific Design The target markets for the Document Centre 1010S are corporate Central Reprographics Departments or in-house print rooms, as well as print for pay businesses. In-house departments are present in many corporations for the provision of key documents such as bids and tenders, business reports, financial results, and training material. "The product can support a large office where fast turn around and quick service is required as it has the productivity and speed to cope with many connected users. Its key feature is network connectivity enabled by the Fiery controller, which extends production power beyond the print room, enabling jobs to be submitted remotely,'' according to Witt. In the graphic arts market, the networking ability lets printing companies connect electronically to their clients, so they are not restricted to hard copy input. As many of them already have Fiery-controlled colour devices, the Document Centre 1010S can fit into existing workflows easily. Availability The Fiery-powered Document Centre 1010S will be available in Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore from November 2001, with New Zealand and other Asia Pacific companies taking orders soon after.
