Pageflex Releases Mpower 3

Press release from the issuing company

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Oct. 30, 2001-- New features focus on the evolving composition, preview, and output requirements of Web-to-print customers. Mpower 3 will be demonstrated in the Hewlett-Packard and Adobe booths at Xplor 2001 in Orlando from October 30 to November 1, 2001. Pageflex, Inc., announced today it is shipping version 3 of Pageflex(TM) Mpower(TM), the next generation of its award-winning dynamic composition software. This release reflects Pageflex's ongoing commitment to improving usability, providing a rich set of composition tools for variable publishing, and supporting the evolution of the variable data market into the Web-to-print services arena. "During the beta test period, the transition to Mpower 3 has been seamless. The new features combined with the existing flexibility, reliability and speed allow us to continue to offer a valuable service to our clients,'' said Rick Dyer, President of Spire, a commercial and digital print facility in Boston, Massachusetts. "We are pleased with the new feature that allows us to suppress the printing of elements. This new capability will make the process of proofing our large volume of imprinting on pre-printed shells much easier. The advanced copyfitting functions provide added flexibility for the users of our Web based Print-On-Demand systems. Also, the ability to place PDF files, substitute fonts, and natively generate PDFs has been a tremendous improvement.'' Native PDF Rendering By incorporating Adobe's Portable Document Format Library for native output of PDF files and enabling users to place PDF files as static or variable objects within documents, Pageflex continues to offer customers the most advanced capabilities in the variable print industry. "Adobe PDF has become the de facto standard for viewing, posting and printing documents via the Internet, and Pageflex's implementation of this file format into Mpower 3 capitalizes on the benefits of Adobe PDF workflow,'' said George Cacioppo, Vice President of Internet Printing at Adobe. "With Adobe PDF as the preferred file format, Mpower 3 users will be able to utilize native Adobe PDF more efficiently for dynamic composition and variable data, giving users almost three times the conversion speed for Web previewing and printing. Mpower 3 users can also `place' Adobe PDF files within any document, further insuring content portability across a broad range of hardware and software platforms. Mpower's use of PDF throughout the workflow, has significant benefits for anyone involved in Web-to-print marketing, variable or dynamic document creation.'' Key Features of Mpower 3 "In developing Mpower 3, we focused on functionality that our customer base in printing and Web-to-print services can use today,'' explained Katherine Reisz, Director of Product Management. "By incorporating advanced copyfitting capabilities, the ability to place PDF objects, and enhanced color support, Mpower 3 also will appeal to marketing and advertising users who are developing one-to-one marketing campaigns.'' Mpower 3 includes dozens of new features, usability improvements, and performance enhancements. New capabilities and enhancements include: * the ability to preview transactional jobs before they are incorporated into a web site * advanced user-defined copyfitting rules * spot color and tint support * generic CMYK color matching of previews and bitmaps * placed PDFs as images * XML-based project files * support for enhanced output drivers, including native PDF utilizing the Adobe PDF Library and the industry standard Personalized Print Markup Language (PPML) Starting today Pageflex will demonstrate Mpower 3, along with previews of future product offerings, at Xplor 2001 in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The largest conference and exhibit focusing on document technology solutions for the enterprise, Xplor runs through November 1, 2001.
