DAYTON, Ohio- Oct. 23, 2001--Standard Register was recognized with awards in three categories at the Tag & Label Manufacturers Institute (TLMI) 2001 awards program for converters. The Company won first place in the multi-process, non-prime category; second place in the flat-screen printing - line and screen/tone category; and an honorable mention in the flat screen printing - line - prime category. The winners were announced recently at the organization's annual meeting in Phoenix. "We're honored that each of our three entries won awards,'' said Jeffrey Kenny, president of Standard Register Label Solutions. "We were up against the best in the industry. That speaks volumes about the innovative and technologically advanced labels produced by Standard Register.'' The first-place winning entry was a flexo-void pantograph emergency room prescription document produced for Lakeland Hospital in Lakeland, Florida. This multi-ply laser-imprinted sheet includes advanced document security features that prevent the form from being photocopied or scanned. The void pantograph incorporated in the document is the first flexo void pantograph to ever pass a color copier test--it could not be reproduced by the copier without the word "void'' appearing all over the copy. Another innovative feature of the document is the use of Standard Register's spot carbonless technology to capture any information the doctor writes, including the prescription itself and the doctor's signature. The doctor simply tears off the prescription to give to the patient and retains the carbonless copy for the patient's medical record. Also winning was Standard Register's product identification label for DeVilbiss' Monsoon Pressure Washer that incorporates both line and screen printing. The final award was for a three-color product-identification label for Ingersol Rand featuring heavy solid coverage and line work in very tight registration. The label materials and printing are designed to last the life of these industrial products. The TLMI Awards Competition was instituted in 1978 to recognize excellence in tag and pressure sensitive label design. The objective of the competition is to stimulate innovative printing and recognize technical achievement in all areas of the narrow web industry. The competition presents converters with an opportunity to showcase their finest work, receive recognition for their efforts, and be exposed to the new and innovative converting methods and techniques being used in the industry.
