(RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ - October 16, 2001) Agfa Corporation has announced the completion of the installation of its IMPAX Digital Imaging Network - Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) in each of the hospitals belonging to the Department of Veterans Affairs' Veterans Integrated Service Network 22 (VISN 22). The hospitals and their outpatient satellites are located in Loma Linda, Long Beach, San Diego and West Los Angeles, CA, Las Vegas, NV, as well as at Nellis Air Force Base. The contract, Agfa's largest single PACS sale to date, is valued at more than $11 million, and was performed under Agfa's DIN-PACS contract with the Defense Logistics Agency. Following Agfa's VISN 22 contract award in 2000, this fast-track project has ushered in a filmless imaging environment for routine diagnostic interpretation to the VISN 22 hospital system. "This is a significant milestone for Agfa and the Veterans Health Administration medical centers," said Douglas M. Tucker, Ph.D., Vice-President, Agfa IMPAX Solutions North America. "Enabling this large system of VA hospitals to link to each other as well as other military hospitals brings important cost and workflow efficiencies to all of these facilities. At the same time it successfully sets a precedent for a fast, open way to interconnect VA imaging systems so that patients' medical information can easily follow them wherever they go within the VISN 22 network." Installation began at the VA hospital in San Diego, where Agfa installed 14 workstations, a web server and other core components. This system was interfaced with Mission Valley Clinic, the hospital's outpatient clinic 8 miles away. The PACS systems throughout the Greater Los Angeles VA System were upgraded to Agfa's IMPAX version 4.1. The Las Vegas VA site received the core PACS equipment, along with 5 workstations and a Web 1000 server, connecting it with nearby Nellis Air Force Base, where all Las Vegas hospital patients are treated. The Nellis facility installed Agfa's core PACS equipment along with the Agfa ADC Compacttm and ADC Solotm Computed Radiology (CR) systems and seven workstations. The Loma Linda VA facility and the Long Beach site each received, in addition to the core components, 12 workstations and a web server.
