Xerox Reduces Network Maintenance Headaches With New Software

Tuesday, October 16, 2001

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Oct. 15, 2001--Xerox Corporation is helping IT administrators increase their efficiency and reduce the amount of time spent on managing printer and multifunction products with its CentreWare Web-Xerox Device Management Software. CentreWare Web is designed to help customers easily and effectively manage all network printing devices, regardless of brand, through any Web browser. Through one easy-to-navigate Web-based screen, CentreWare Web enables customers to set up and configure up to 100,000 network printers and digital multifunction systems, check equipment status, troubleshoot problems, track print usage, access reporting information, change settings and check the status of toner and paper. Microsoft, for example, recently deployed the software to help its administrators correct printing problems before the problems could affect users. "CentreWare Web's proactive monitoring capabilities have allowed us to identify potential problems before they are reported by end users,'' said Stefan Weitz, architect of client solutions for IT, Microsoft Corp. "This has resulted in a significant increase in overall satisfaction with print services.'' "As the number of printed pages continues to grow, it is critical for businesses to gain tight control over their document output devices,'' said Ken Kaisen, vice president, Xerox Office Enterprise Solutions. "Xerox understands this challenge and continues to develop the right technology to meet it. CentreWare Web provides tremendous value for our customers by reducing the costs and time associated with managing their output infrastructure.'' CentreWare Web provides more ways to help with critical troubleshooting than its competitors. Unlike competitive products, including Hewlett-Packard's WebJetAdmin and Lexmark's MarkVision Pro, CentreWare Web can determine both the location and cause of output problems and is the only device management product that provides both a Queue View and a Printer View. With both views, customers are able to monitor the overall health of their printing equipment. Intuitive wizards quickly help guide administrators of all skill levels through common tasks, such as checking toner and paper supply, and identifying print jobs holding up the queue. In addition, CentreWare Web is the only program that provides search, filter and sort functions, which allow administrators to find, group and select printers on the network. These features enable fast access and data retrieval to not only help decrease the inconveniences caused by printing errors, but also increase the efficiency of administrators, giving them more time to support other critical IT issues. CentreWare Web is available with every Xerox network printer, including the new Phaser 5400 network printer announced today and the industry-leading Document Centre 490 launched in September. The software is immediately available and also can be downloaded at no charge via the Web at www.xerox.com/centrewareweb.
