Canon and BMC Software Announce Distribution Alliance

Press release from the issuing company

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. and HOUSTON, Oct. 9 Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in networked imaging systems, and BMC Software, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise management software, today announced a distribution alliance that will for the first time, deliver advanced enterprise-level management capabilities for Canon imageRUNNER copier/printers using BMC Software's PATROL solution. With the agreement, Canon imageRUNNER becomes the first digital copier/printer line to integrate with the PATROL enterprise management solution. Through a joint development effort, Canon and BMC Software engineers have created device management Knowledge Modules (KMs) that integrate seamlessly into PATROL environments. The Knowledge Modules provide the necessary information via software to configure, monitor, and manage Canon imageRUNNER 330, 400, 550, 600, 60, 3250, 5000, and 6000 models on the network. IT Administrators will now have the ability to set custom alarm and event notifications and user-defined service levels, allowing them to respond to alerts and conditions that may affect the operation of imageRUNNER devices throughout the enterprise. The end result is reduced deployment time and support costs, and increased operational efficiency and event prediction capability. "Canon is very pleased to announce the integration of imageRUNNER devices within PATROL environments, as this will now allow even greater levels of monitoring and management capability throughout the enterprise,'' said Dennis Amorosano, Director of Marketing, Canon U.S.A. Copier and Networked Office Systems. "Through our combined efforts, Canon and BMC customers will benefit through advanced management of all enterprise resources.'' "This alliance brings two leaders in their respective industries together through BMC's MarketZone Partner Program to deliver enhanced enterprise-wide management to our mutual customers,'' said Johnny Ola, Director of Business Development, for BMC Software. "Our customers will have improved ability to meet service levels through this innovative solution for managing the critical printing components required to get day-to-day business accomplished.'' In order to increase overall network management efficiency and assure that business service levels are met, the Canon imageRUNNER KM for PATROL provides "health at a glance'' by monitoring and notifying upon alert of key devicestatus indicators, including jams, low paper and feeder, disk, toner and stapler status. In addition, the KM provides a consolidated view of usage and status for all imageRUNNER printer/copiers in the enterprise. The Canon imageRUNNER KM for PATROL will be available in the fourth quarter of 2001 and will be distributed free of charge on a CD-ROM that will be included with all network connected imageRUNNER purchases. Canon imageRUNNER customers will also be able to download a trial version of BMC Software's PATROL enterprise management solution from the CD-ROM. Additionally, the Canon imageRUNNER KM for PATROL will also be available for download from www.imagerunner.com , or by contacting an Authorized Canon U.S.A. Dealer or Canon Business Solutions location.
