Smart Papers, Newest U.S. Papermaker, Targets Premium Print Markets

Press release from the issuing company

HAMILTON, Ohio--Oct. 8, 2001-- Smart Papers LLC, the newest U.S. manufacturer of premium printing papers, today announced a sweeping modernization of its three core text and cover product lines -- cast-coated, glossy Kromekote, matte-coated Knightkote and its premium uncoated 100% recycled grade, Benefit. "This is significant because some of the world's best known printing papers now have substantially improved optical, physical and printing characteristics,'' said Tim Needham, president and CEO of Smart Papers. "These gradelines have new relevance and depth. Theybring important new value to graphic designers, printers, paper distributors and their customers.'' All papers are now available. Smart Papers will release new swatchbooks for each gradeline on Oct. 15. Later in the month, the company will unveil additional print demonstrations and commercial samples for each product. Promotional and educational campaigns follow. The new gradelines and key features are: * Kromekoteplus. This overhaul gives the original Kromekote a new, icy, blue-white shade, higher brightness, improved sheet gloss, richer print gloss, increased stiffness, superior press performance and new weights and finishes. The papers are available as Kromekoteplus Text and Cover; as Kromekote Glass for maximum gloss; as Kromekote Digital for digital offset, inkjet and laser printers; as Kromekote Packaging for label and carton applications and as Kromekoteplus Textures, featuring four new embossed finishes. * Knightkote Matte. This high-brightness, matte-coated paper offers high recycled content, a wide range of weights and finishes and is marketed at value price points. Like Kromekote, it offers strong visual, printing and converting advantages. * Benefit. This well-established 100% recycled uncoated text and cover line known for its distinctive colors, high post-consumer fiber content and easy printability is overhauled and modernized with new high definition printability, new bright whites and new neutral colors for designers and corporate end-users. "These three brands are synonymous with premium printing papers,'' said Needham, a 25-year veteran of the U.S. printing paper industry. "With them, we're taking the best of papermaking tradition and making it better.''
