Weyerhaeuser Selected for Dow Jones Sustainability Group Index

Press release from the issuing company

FEDERAL WAY, Wash.- Oct. 8, 2001--Weyerhaeuser Company today announced that it has been selected to the Dow Jones Sustainability Group Index (DJSGI) for the second year in a row on the basis of its commitment to innovation, governance, shareholders, leadership and society. The world's first index to globally track sustainability performance among companies, the DJSGI is founded on the premise that sustainability leaders can be identified and ranked by their management for investment purposes. "Corporate sustainability is an investable concept,'' according to the DJSGI. "The rigorous methodology used by Dow Jones to identify companies for the index truly indicates the sustainability leaders in industry. This is crucial in driving interest and investments in sustainability to the mutual benefit of companies and investors. As this benefit circle strengthens, it will have a positive effect on the societies and economies of both the developed and developing world.'' Steven R. Rogel, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Weyerhaeuser said, "We're proud to have this confirmation of our work on innovation and sustainability. While it's hard to be objective about your own company, this listing recognizes our progress in managing our fixed assets and our valuable natural resources for social, environmental and economic benefits. "Each day, Weyerhaeuser makes products essential to people's lives. We do this while creating shareholder value, and adhering to high standards of safety, environmental performance, community responsibilities and ethical business practices,'' said Rogel. "It's only by balancing the triple bottom line that we can become a global leader and the best forest products company in the world.''
