Magazine Publishers of America Moving Conference to New York

Press release from the issuing company

New York (September 28, 2001) - Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) and American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) have just announced that they are moving the annual magazine conference to New York City October 21-23. The announcement was made today by Nina Link, President and CEO, MPA and Cathleen P. Black, President, Hearst Magazines. Formerly scheduled for Phoenix, Arizona on October 21-24, the executive board of the MPA cited the economy and the events of September 11 as reasons for publishers and editors to be close to the center of the magazine and advertising communities at this time. "Many of our member attendees as well as speakers expressed their reluctance to leave their New-York-based offices during such challenging times," said Ms. Link. "We are in the information business so our first obligation is to stay on top of events and to be sure our readers are well informed in a timely manner." "There are many crucial issues facing the magazine industry to be addressed at our annual meeting. In an effort to accommodate the majority of members who are based in the tri-state area, we made the decision to change the venue so we could do as President Bush encouraged and conduct business as usual," added Ms. Black. "It's also great for our industry to support New York by bringing the biggest magazine industry event here." Cyndi Stivers, AMC Chair and President/Editor-in-Chief of Time Out New York added "Bringing the conference to New York City allows us to tap into more of the tremendous resources available here to continue to make the program the best it can be. It will also be a better opportunity than ever for our members to come together and exchange ideas." The AMC conference will be held at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers beginning Sunday October 21 and ending Tuesday, October 23.
