Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department Adopts QuarkXPress 8

DENVER - 09-30-2008 Quark announced today that students in the Graphic Communication Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo will use QuarkXPress 8 in prepress courses and in the university's experiential student-run printing and publishing enterprise, University Graphic Systems. QuarkXPress 8 will also be used in workshops and seminars offered by the Graphic Communication Institute at Cal Poly.

"The latest version of QuarkXPress automates and streamlines complex prepress production," said Mike Blum, Cal Poly Graphic Communication Professor and coordinator of the department's Electronic Publishing and Imaging concentration. "It is an incredible learning tool for our students." Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department has had a long and positive relationship with Quark. "We are pleased to enhance our partnership with one of the leading vendors in the graphic arts industry," Blum said.

"It's important to equip our students with the necessary software skills for our industry," said Lorraine Donegan, Cal Poly Graphic Communication Professor and coordinator of the department's Design Reproduction Technology concentration. "Quark is an icon in the creative publishing arena and we're thrilled to integrate QuarkXPress 8 into our curriculum," Donegan said.

This update will help educate students using the latest prepress technology in today's graphic communication market. "QuarkXPress 8 will help us provide industry-ready graphic communication professionals who are proficient with the latest tools produced by one of the leading manufacturers in our industry," said Harvey Levenson, head of the Graphic Communication Department.
