Xeikon Unveils New High-speed Black-and-white Digital Press

Press release from the issuing company

Chicago, IL, USA, 2001/09/07 Xeikon has today announced the latest digital press to join its range of color and black-and-white products - the Xeikon DMP 8000 Digital Monochrome Press. The DMP 8000 in Twin-Engine Duplex configuration is on show at the Xeikon booth at PRINT 01 in Chicago’s McCormick Place. A wide range of on-demand printing applications will be run on the press during the show. With a highly efficient workflow, 600 dpi print quality, a wider imaging width (18.5"), low total cost of operation and unique cold flash fusing, the Xeikon DMP 8000 presents exciting new opportunities for printers requiring high-speed, high-quality printed output. The DMP 8000, available for shipping today, complements Xeikon's other monochrome presses, the 910 CF, Xeikon 7000 and the VaryPress. "Xeikon is proud to unveil a new press that will enable commercial printers, book publishers, direct mail houses, statement printers and data centres to increase productivity as well as print higher quality documents," says Gino Despeghel, Xeikon's executive chairman of the board."There are tremendous growth opportunities for Xeikon in the digital black-and-white market and we will continue to build on our successes with presses such as the DMP 8000." Quality The DMP 8000 features Xeikon's unique magnetography technology, a patented printing process that combines speed, quality, and versatility. The DMP 8000, with 600 dpi resolution and a new toner formulation, adds enhanced levels of print quality to the advantages of Xeikon magnetography. The new toner provides higher optical density for solids and lines, sharper edges and better grey scale rendering. This, combined with the image enhancement software in the DMP 8000, results in superior image quality on the widest range of materials in the industry. Productivity & Versatility Xeikon designed the DMP 8000 to meet the high speed and large volume requirements of print on demand, direct mail, and transactional applications. The DMP 8000 is available in three models, with speeds of 60, 45 and 30 metres per minute (196, 147 and 98 feet per minute) handling either 600 dpi or 300 dpi output at the same rate.At 60 metres per minute, the DMP 8000 produces 428 US letter-size pages per minute (PPM).Each model can be configured as a Twin Engine Duplex (TED) system and is capable of 856 PPM in TED configuration.Print speed can be upgraded in the field allowing users to increase production capacity, while avoiding product obsolescence. For maximum versatility, the DMP 8000 can be ordered with an option to handle both pin-fed and pinless stock.Like Xeikon's 7000 and VaryPress models, the DMP 8000 includes variable speed control to maximise flexibility, optimise integration with in-line finishing equipment, and provide improved output for certain speciality substrates. The 18.5" imaging width and 20.5" maximum web width are especially important to "print-for-pay" providers who depend on high throughput for profitability. Book manufacturers, for example, can maximise production efficiency with "3-up" production of 6"x 9" books, including document identification and registration marks in trim areas for post-processing equipment. Xeikon's use of cold flash fusing in the DMP 8000 eliminates heating, drying or distortion of the substrate during printing. As a result, printed pages lie flat and post-processing is more reliable. Like all Xeikon digital monochrome presses, the DMP 8000 allows for the widest variety of printable materials in the industry, including lightweight and heavyweight papers (64 to 160 gsm, 17lb. bond to 110lb. cover), synthetics, recycled papers, and even foils, labels, plastic cards, and pressure- and thermo-sensitive stocks. Enhanced Operation and Cost Savings The DMP 8000 digital press continues the Xeikon tradition of providing rugged, operator-maintainable production printers with high duty cycles. A number of product enhancements have been incorporated in the DMP 8000 to improve operation, increase up-time, and allow even easier self-maintenance functionality. Like all of its presses, Xeikon has priced the DMP 8000 to provide a quick return on investment and this results in a highly economical press for digital black & white high-speed printing. Economical operation of the DMP 8000 is enhanced by its design, which makes many functions user serviceable. The new toner of the DMP 8000, in addition to its print quality improvements, also provides a better yield than previous magnetographic printer toners. As a result, the DMP 8000 is one of the most cost-effective high-speed black-and-white printers on the market today. Immediate Shipping The DMP 8000 is shipping today with Xeikon's PS-RIP station for print-on-demand applications. The IPDS compatible version of the press will be available in November 2001.Future enhancements will include the release of Xeikon's successful IntelliStreamTM Digital Front-End (DFE) for use with the DMP 8000 in the second quarter of 2002. IntelliStream DFE for Black-and-White This new version of the award winning Xeikon IntelliStream DFE, optimised for monochrome applications, will provide added job setup, process management and system control functionality to further streamline workflow and improve productivity. Xeikon will provide an upgrade path from the PS-RIP station to the IntelliStream front-end for those users who can benefit from its advanced feature set.
