Fossil Reduces Costs and Maximizes Creativity with the Adobe Design Collection

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Sept. 11, 2001--Adobe Systems Incorporated, the leader in network publishing, today announced that Fossil, Inc. has converted to the Adobe Design Collection, including Adobe InDesign software. Fossil is a leader in the design, development, marketing and distribution of contemporary fashion watches, apparel and accessories. Promoting Fossil's innovative products and providing marketing support for distributors and OEMs worldwide requires producing large volumes of catalogs, point-of-sale materials, ads, signage and other marketing materials. About 300 collateral projects are active during any given week in Fossil's in-house design studio of approximately 100 creative professionals. Nearly 50 full-color catalogs are produced annually. Previously, this work was completed using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and QuarkXPress(TM) software. "Our move to the Adobe Design Collection saved us a significant amount of money,'' said Tim Hale, Fossil's senior vice president and image director. "Even more important, our designers and production staff are thrilled with the increased creativity and productivity that InDesign offers.'' To meet its demanding production schedule while reducing costs and fostering creativity, Fossil converted to the integrated Adobe Design Collection, adding InDesign and Adobe Acrobat to its workflow. Since January 2001, Fossil has produced numerous catalogs and other collateral materials using the Adobe Design Collection, with InDesign for page layout and production. The integrated Adobe suite supports a streamlined workflow, from start to finish. "Fossil has long been recognized for its innovation and forward-thinking design,'' said Susan Altman Prescott, vice president of cross-media publishing at Adobe. "By converting to the Adobe Design Collection and Adobe InDesign, Fossil is coupling maximum creativity with tangible business benefits such as reduced costs through increased productivity.'' The switch to InDesign went smoothly for Fossil's designers. Each component of the Adobe Design Collection shares common commands, tools, palettes and keyboard shortcuts, spurring quick learning and efficiency. Since moving to the Adobe Design Collection, Fossil's designers spend less time switching back and forth between QuarkXPress and Illustrator or Photoshop, enhancing productivity. The Fossil production team pre-flights catalogs and other materials in InDesign, to ensure fonts, colors, image formats and print settings are correct, thereby reducing errors during pre-press and printing. InDesign files are then sent to one of Fossil's print service providers. Fossil switched to InDesign because nearly 50 print providers who work with Fossil support InDesign files.
