The scanner with a photographic memory, the Canon DR-5060F can simultaneously record images to a PC and to obsolescence-proof microfilm, offering state-of-the-art document management and a back-up system in one compact unit. The only digital scanner with built-in, long-term archival recording, the Canon DR-5060F enables image files to be accessible and readable 20, 50, even 100 years in the future, despite changes in storage technology. Delivering superior image quality of up to 300 dpi resolution and 256 levels of grayscale, the DR-5060F can easily manage a variety of imaging applications, including government records, insurance claims, freight bills and more. Color dropout capability is included as a standard feature to ensure more efficient optical character recognition and forms processing. Its ability to perform "digital preservation" makes the Canon DR-5060F attractive to Canon customers like Virtual Image Technology, a South Carolina-based service bureau that processes more than 3 million images a day for its 800 active customers. "Many of our customers have learned the expensive and painful lesson of not considering both digital and microfilm technology when converting their data," said Marc McQueen, executive vice president, Marketing for Virtual Image Technology. "The DR-5060F, with its combination of digital and analog media, will allow us to provide our customers with the reassurance that their data truly will be both accessible and protected." Designed to scan at speeds of up to 100 pages per minute, the DR-5060F can process different sized materials, including checks, business cards, letterhead and even 11" x 17"documents, in the same batch without user intervention. The DR-5060F includes Canon's celebrated Automatic Document Feeder, which can handle up to 500 sheets at a time, and the scanner automatically adjusts for paper size, thickness and skew before scanning, virtually eliminating misfeeds. The DR-5060F, with its intuitive automatic features, demonstrates Canon's commitment to simplifying technology. One-touch user controls, automatic feeding and paper adjustment and pre-programmable scanning/set-up modes are just some of the features that increase productivity by virtually eliminating rescanning and presorting. A control panel on the main unit facilitates adjusting brightness and also activates the scanning, filming or simultaneous scan/film modes. With one touch of a button, users can film simplex and duplex documents on 16mm roll film, with a choice of 24x or high-capacity 57x camera units. ISIS, TWAIN and Canon drivers come bundled with the DR-5060F to ensure flexible connectivity and compatibility with a host of scanning software applications. All DR-5060F drivers work with Windows 95/98/2K/Me and Windows NT operating systems and support the SCSI-II interface. Canon's DR-5060F also supports the following options: * An Imprinter that prints user-designated characters at any position on scanned items to streamline the indexing and processing of stored images. * The Endorser ED600, which stamps an 8-digit number plus customized information on documents as they are scanned, make it extremely simple to scan and process business-critical materials. * A Bar Code Decoder, so that information attached to documents via a bar code is also read and stored with the scanned document. * A Patch Code Detector, which detects patch codes and automatically separates files, sending a signal to both the PC and filmer. The DR-5060F builds upon Canon's already comprehensive line of document management solutions, which includes the DR-5020, DR-5080C, DR-4080U Document Scanners, the CD-4050 Digital Document Recorder, the MS-400, MS-500, MS-800 Microfilm Scanners and Canon's newest products, the DR-3060 Document Scanner and DR-3080C Color Document Scanner. The Canon DR-5060F, which is available in three configurations, will be offered through authorized full-line Canon dealers . The suggested retail price for the scanner without a camera unit is $18,000. The 24x and 57x camera units are available at a suggested retail price of $1,900 each.
