Presstek Shows Automatic Plate Loading for Dimension200 and 400 CTP Systems

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, September 6, 2001 – Presstek, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRST), a leading provider of Direct Imaging (DI) technology, demonstrates a new and unique automated plate loading system for Dimension200 and 400 CTP systems at the PRINT '01 show here in Chicago (September 6-13). Presstek’s Dimension platesetter equipped with the automatic plate loading option will support multiple plate sizes, simultaneously, without operator intervention. The new Dimension auto loading process is specifically designed for the small- to mid-size shop that requires a CTP solution that supports multiple plate sizes and this easy-to-use process. Fast, Easy & Automatic Plate Loading Using the Presstek Automatic Plate Loading System (APL), the complete platemaking process -- from imaging to cleaning to plate delivery -- is accomplished with a click of the mouse. Up to twelve plates can be pre-loaded in the automatic plate loading cassette. Plates can be of multiple sizes, ranging from 9.5" x 12" to 20" x 20" for a Dimension200, to 29" x 29" for a Dimension400 equipped system. The cassette allows the user to have multiple plate sizes loaded and ready for imaging. The Presstek exclusive auto-queuing system allows the operator to specify the press on which a job will be run, and the Dimension will select the correct size plate, load, image, wash, and deliver automatically without any further operator intervention. Additional plates can easily be added during the imaging process, enabling a true "hands-off" platemaking workflow; operators can now focus on other functions such as pre-flighting, trapping and proofing. "Our customers have demonstrated how much time and money they've saved by making plates with their Dimension CTP systems. Production cycle times and costs have been reduced; it takes just a few minutes to get a plate on-press, and the burden of chemistry-based plates is eliminated. They have seen their CTP systems produce a positive return on investment in just months. The automatic plate loading option was designed to further increase these savings," said Marc Johnson, Presstek’s Product Line Marketing Manager for Off-Press Imaging Systems. Pricing and Availability The Dimension Automatic Plate Loading System will begin beta testing during 2001, and will be commercially available in both new system configurations and through an upgrade program for current Dimension users in early 2002. Suggested list price, when included with a Dimension at the time of purchase, will be less than $40,000. Upgrade pricing will be announced in early 2002. Presstek’s launch of the APL system will include two upgrade programs. All Dimensions shipped after September 1, 2001 can be upgraded right at the customer's shop in less than one day. Presstek is also offering an upgrade path for Dimensions shipped earlier than September 1, ensuring that all existing Dimension customers can benefit from this automated functionality.
