Agfa Monotype Announces Font Licensing Agreement with Sony

LAS VEGAS--Nov. 12, 2001--Agfa Monotype Corporation today announced that Sony Corporation has entered into a worldwide agreement to license fonts for SOCRATTO, a high-end digital production tool for creating special effects and composite images for movies and commercials. SOCRATTO, which allows post-production artists to work interactively using any number of clips at any resolution, is scheduled for release in July, 2002. "We're pleased to be working with Sony on such an exciting new product,'' said Doug Shaw, senior vice president of Agfa Monotype's OEM business unit. "Our fonts, which will be used for text such as video captions and movie credits, are ideally suited to meet Sony's needs for high quality, flexibility and Windows compatibility.'' The licensed TrueType fonts include Albany(TM), Thorndale(TM), Cumberland(TM), ITC Avant Garde, ITC Bookman, ITC Charter, Monotype Century Schoolbook, Book Antiqua, Photina, ITC Zapf Chancery and ITC Zapf Dingbats. Post-production artists running SOCRATTO on Windows platforms will be able to display fonts as graphic objects to create 3D text shapes from 2D outlines. "We selected Agfa Monotype from the standpoint of quality and selection,'' said Tetsuo Maruyama, marketing manager of VFX Software, a division of Sony. "Our product is used for high-resolution film, so it's important to work with technically-sound, high-quality fonts. Agfa Monotype also has a huge font library, giving us a wide range of choices.''
