Pantone and ColorVision Align to Provide Affordable Tools for Color Control

Press release from the issuing company

CARLSTADT, N.J. & ROCHESTER, N.Y.- Aug. 29, 2001--Pantone, Inc. and ColorVision Inc., a Datacolor company, today announced a major marketing alliance to provide affordable digital color control to graphic artists and designers, photographers and printers. The two companies will share marketing and distribution responsibilities for the new PANTONE COLORVISION(TM)product line, offering exclusive product bundles for photo, design, Web and pre-press applications. Pantone has been the worldwide standard for color specification and communication for the past 40 years. ColorVision has emerged as the industry leader for high quality, affordable products for digital color control since its inception in 2000. Together they will combine the best analog and digital solutions to provide color professionals as well as color enthusiasts (photo hobbyists) with affordable solutions to specify color, calibrate displays, profile printers and confirm color accuracy. The two core products of the PANTONE COLORVISION product line provide monitor calibration using the Spyder(TM), an all-digital, seven-filter colorimeter. Manufactured by ColorVision, the Spyder is a sleek black disc with clear LEXAN® legs and suction cups that adhere to the monitor's screen to produce an ICC monitor profile. The Spyder is available in two versions based on customers' needs. The Spyder(TM) with PhotoCAL(TM) is designed for color enthusiasts while the Spyder(TM) with OptiCAL(TM) is targeted to color professionals. Each version contains Adobe® Photoshop® Elements and specially developed PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® Swatch Libraries for Photoshop Elements for optimum PANTONE Color display. Both products are scheduled to launch at PRINT '01 in Chicago on September 6, 2001, and will be available from Pantone and ColorVision at www.pantone.com and www.colorcal.com, respectively. "We believe in collaboration and giving our customers real value,'' stated Brian Levey, vice president of ColorVision Inc. "Pantone is the most trusted name in color among designers and printers worldwide. ColorVision is known for its award-winning digital solutions. With the combined core competencies of our two companies behind this co-branded line, our customers know they're getting the best combination of color control products available.'' "Digital color control has been too complicated and too costly for the majority of the design community,'' corroborated Richard Herbert, president of Pantone. "We are committed to making consistent, accurate color accessible and achievable by all our customers, and continually strive to offer them the best solutions. The new PANTONE COLORVISION product line will simplify the color workflow for creatives at all levels.'' Additional PANTONE COLORVISION product bundles tailored to specific industry needs will be available in Q4 2001.
