Study Says Sluggish Economy Catches up with Creatives

Press release from the issuing company

According to TrendWatch, Yikes! Our new Summer 2001 Design & Production Survey data is in, and only 20% of creative businesses reported excellent conditions, while 30% reported poor conditions. Eighteen percent expect poor conditions to continue next year. The economic slowdown has finally hit the design community. This is nothing to cheer about, but we knew it had to happen eventually. Whenever companies are in financial distress, it's advertising and marketing that get the axe first. We saw this first with publishers, then printers, and now the ones who actually create ads and marketing materials. On top of that, now that everyone has a Web site, there's less Web work, too. It's no comfort to know that we're not in a recession.
