SAN DIEGO, CA, August 8, 2001 – Printable Technologies Inc., (www.printable.com), the leading online service provider for the graphic arts industry, announces this month that it has signed on as a Full Member of CIP4 (www.cip4.org), the recognized operating standards body for the graphic arts and printing. The goal of CIP4 is to encourage the computer-based integration of all processes that must be considered in enterprises of the graphic arts industry. This is accomplished through the specification of appropriate industry standards such as Job Definition Format (JDF). JDF is a comprehensive XML-based file format industry standard for end-to-end job ticket specifications. JDF provides a means for printing businesses to streamline the workflow process. The vision behind the CIP4 initiative is to apply the concepts of "Computer Integrated Manufacturing" to the production of print and other media. As an industry leader in online application service, Printable’s membership in CIP4 allows the company to ensure interoperability with all CIP4-compliant systems, as well as enabling Printable to guide the specifications of standards moving forward. "We’re proud to be a Full Member of CIP4, and to participate in the development of the industry standard specifications it promotes and maintains," said Chuck Gehman, CTO and Executive Vice President of Printable. "Along with our role as a founding member of PrintTalk, we believe that we’re well positioned to provide services that feature robust interoperability for our customers." Printable’s online applications suite provides resources for customers that are grouped into three major categores: e-commerce, customer relationship management (CRM), and digital workflow. Using JDF, Printable’s applications will exchange data with systems and software from other vendors who support the JDF specification. These include everything from desktop publishing applications, management systems, presses, bindery equipment, and much more. Printable is actively involved in the organization with Gehman acting as a member of the CIP4 e-commerce working group. Working groups within CIP4 have been established to consider special issues of JDF. "JDF will greatly increase the end-to-end efficiency of print related work flows, enabling the flawless integration of open systems into one productive and profitable whole," said Martin Bailey, CEO of CIP4. About CIP4 CIP4 is an international, world wide operating standards body located in Switzerland. The purpose of the association is to encourage computer based integration of all processes that have to be considered in the graphic arts industry, in particular the specification of standards. The International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4) is the successor of CIP3, which started in 1995 as a joint initiative of vendors for the graphical arts industry.
