Torraspapel's Self-adhesive Mill Obtains EMAS Certification

Press release from the issuing company

(September 29, 2008) 100% of Torraspapel's production of cellulose pulp, coated papers and self-adhesives now has EMAS European environmental certification.

With the addition of the plant in Almazán (Spain), six of the factories of Torraspapel, part of the Lecta Group, have now successfully completed the audits that accredit their compliance with the strict EMAS environmental standards.

Before the end of 2008, the certification is scheduled to be extended to all of the Company's production centers, including factories devoted to the manufacture of specialty papers, which are currently in the certification process. As a result, in the next few months, all of Torraspapel's production will hold ISO 9001 quality certification and ISO 14001 and EMAS environmental certifications.

The Environmental Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) of the EU is a voluntary system designed to foster continuous improvement in the environmental performance of public and private organizations through the implementation of an environmental management system; the systematic, periodic and objective evaluation of the functioning of this system; the voluntary publication of environmental information with the aim of establishing ongoing dialogue with the public and interested parties; and the training and active involvement of employees in improving environmental performance.

The system is based on the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, requiring, in addition, the elaboration of an environmental statement verified by an external auditor and made available to the public.
