VSI Moves into Book Components Market, Unveils New Logo

Press release from the issuing company

MILWAUKEE, July 16, 2001 – Visual Systems, Inc., one of the world's leading manufacturers of overhead transparencies and ancillary products for educational textbook and supplemental publishers, announces it is adding the printing of book components to its list of core capabilities, as well as the unveiling of a new corporate identity. VSI is focusing on the manufacturing of book components for the college and el-hi markets, including the printing of hard and soft covers. VSI has invested in building a state-of-the-art facility to fulfill customer expectations, from a modern pre-press operation to UV offset sheetfed technology on a 6-color Heidelberg press to a full range of finishing options. "We’ve broadened our core capabilities in order to better serve our current customers, as well as attract new customers," said John Burg, president of VSI. "This is a strategic addition, not a transition away from our other core offerings. We will continue to be the leader in producing overhead transparencies and ancillaries for the college and el-hi markets." The move into the book components market is accompanied by a change in its corporate identity. The new look is a crisp, modern treatment for one of the industry’s more respected organizations. VSI has also introduced a new tagline inviting customers to "Imagine what we can do for you." "Both are clear and distinct in their message, and are a good launch for success in the 21st century," said Burg. "Our new logo and tagline anchor a dynamic and contemporary look and sound for our organization." The graphic element, a swoosh of material arcing around the VSI word mark, reflects the company’s charge into book components without sacrificing its long-term commitment to the overhead transparencies and ancillary market. Founded in 1961, VSI is the leading overhead transparency producer in the United States. The company provides the educational publishing market with a variety of visual communication products, including book components, binders, textbook inserts, CD-Rom packaging, overhead transparencies, supplemental workbooks, teaching aids, lenticular promotional products (3-D and motion), on-demand printing and slide duplication. VSI employs more than 90 associates and has sales exceeding $18 million annually. The company was recognized as one of the country's top 400 printers according to Printing Impressions magazine. In addition, VSI was named one of the Best Work Places in America by Master Printers of America. VSI has received a number of competitive honors, including a gold Gold Ink Award in the direct-to-press digital imaging category. VSI also won a bronze Gold Ink Award in the book cover category, and accolades from both the Premier Print and Graphic Excellence awards.
