GretagMacbeth New Eye-One System is Now Compatible with Mac OS X

Press release from the issuing company

Regensdorf, Switzerland, July 18, 2001– GretagMacbeth, worldwide technological leader in color measurement and management solutions, today announced Mac OS X compatibility for the award winning Eye-One, a system that includes both software and a measurement device to simplify the creation, communication and management of color. Designed to meet the needs of the creative market, the Eye-One system ensures consistent color reproduction across a wide range of media, eliminating guesswork and wasted proofs. Effective color management becomes increasingly vital as creative professionals take on digital photography, digital proofing, and cross-media publishing. Eye-One creates profiles for all types of devices, including flat panel displays. With its unique flat panel holder, the Eye-One can quickly profile the complete line of Apple’s flat panel displays. Through its exceptional spectral resolution, Eye-One is virtually the only device capable of profiling the award winning Apple Cinema Display, which is digitally-driven to provide sharp, flicker free images with extraordinary brightness and contrast with no image degradation. With the growing use of flat panels in the creative community, profiling these monitors has become critical to be able to soft proof with a high degree of confidence. The Eye-One measurement device is powered by a USB connection, requires no additional power supply, and can be used with both the Mac and PC. Current owners of Eye-One can download a free upgrade to a Mac OS X version from the i1color.com website. In addition to GretagMacbeth’s existing distribution channels, Eye-One is now available on the Apple Store, www.apple.com/store, in two package configurations. Eye-One Monitor measures monitors only and is designed specifically for profiling monitors. Eye-One Pro with Eye-One Match measures both reflective and emissive (monitor) colors, and includes software for profiling the monitor, as well as all input and output devices. The Eye-One Monitor retails for $600 US, while Eye-One Pro with Eye-One Match for $3,000. Both packages include the Pantone digital library. All Eye-One models include Eye-One Share - a unique freeware product for creating and sharing color palettes, which is available on the Web at www.i1color.com. The Eye-One color website is the place for color professionals to exchange ideas, learn more about color and submit feedback on the Eye-One system, including the Eye-One Share freeware. “As color becomes a crucial element in their value proposition, the need for designers to communicate reliably with their clients and suppliers continues to grow,” said Francis Lamy, Executive Vice President Sales, Marketing and Development at GretagMacbeth, “Now, more than ever, an easy-to-use, accurate and affordable color measurement and communication system becomes an integral part of the creative desktop. Apple’s major focus on the creative community, combined with the paradigm shifts OS X brings in usability, reliability and performance, represents more than one compelling reason for GretagMacbeth to quickly endorse the OS X platform. We are very excited that the Eye-One makes Apple’s displays shine!” ”Apple’s line of digitally-driven flat panel displays deliver extraordinary brightness, contrast and color fidelity for creative professionals,” said Ron Okamoto, Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations. “Eye-One will ensure that Mac OS X users can easily obtain the maximum color performance out of the latest Apple displays.”
